Our 37th anniversary was coming up real soon and we had planned to ride up to Lake Superior for a week of camping and exploring. Michelle has been after me to get a new bike all spring so with 10 days before departure we picked up a new Super Tenere. I told her that night that we had to get luggage ordered so I have time to get the bike ready. I showed her all the options and then she said "you go outside for a while" when I came back in she had ordered what she wanted. A couple days later some boxes showed up and I had Givi Outback luggage to install. I think she made a good choice! She also got me some Tank protectors.
I had a Givi windshield for the 12 Blue that I wasn't using so I put it on for more wind protection and put on the side wind deflectors. We wanted to use the Motofizz on the rear because it makes a great trunk for Michelle to rest against and is so easy to load camping gear into.
We were ready to go.
First we headed north into Minnesota. In northern Mn. is a huge mine called Hull Rust Mahoning, I couldn't believe how big it is and how interested Michelle was with it. She usually looks at holes in the ground and just walks away.

We camped every night for a week on the road.

We rode the very remote, sandy, muddy, dirt Echo Trail in the wilderness of northern Mn.

We may look bundled up for summer riding but it's cold up here, we had heated vests on most of the time for 3 or 4 days straight.
There is a lot to see along Lake Superior, Lighthouses Waterfalls and the Lake itself.

I have the coolest wife and my best friend for 37 years now.

When we got to Duluth we stopped at Aerostich. I wanted to get Michelle some waterproof pants. She had to put on and take off rain gear and that's a hassle.

Them his and her Harleys next to our bike are from North Carolina and on their way to Alaska, he owns a 2015 Red Tenere and thinks it's great but needed to be on the Harley since she was on her Harley.

We did the Picture Rocks Sunset boat trip out on Lake Superior. Michelle liked it and it was fun.
They take you out past Grand Island to see an old Lighthouse.

And since it was the Sunset cruise,

Then we dropped down to Lake Michigan.
We rode a narrow back road out to Peninsula Point, at the end is a cool old lighthouse that you can go up in.

Then out into Wisconsin.

We hiked along the Wolf River.
Did I tell you that I have a Totally Awesome Wife!

We found some more waterfalls back in some remote places [Be careful about going back into some of these places, looks like some shady locations]

I married way above my pay scale.

Then we made it home in time to go see the grand-daughters.
What a great trip.

Steve

Wow, better than the great trip is having the great partner!
And appreciating the fact.

That's great Steve! We are coming up on 35 years but moving right now so kinda iffy. Just kidding. Went to the UP as a kid on the list to go back.

Congrats on the new bike Steve! Congrats on the life long mate too! You do need to wear those Battlewings out quickly, they don't look right on you! Let us know your final mileage on your original '12.

Thanks guys.
I can't wait to get them street slicks off, Actually I just put on a new E-07 front yesterday.
There may never be a final mileage on the 12 Blue, I still ride it all the time.

Great ride report and congrats on the 37 years. I went to the UP and Lake Superior for the first time last summer. Can't wait to get back.

I just put one on today! Unfortunately, I need to try to re-seat it tomorrow as I have a slow leak.

Sweet a new bike, you hardly got the old one broke in. Wish I would have known you two were in our neighborhood we would have met you for some pie at Betty's. Leaving for Colorado this weekend to meet up with some Tenere folks. We rode over to Two Harbors last week it was 75 or so when we left and the closer we got to the lake the colder it got. The lake was was fogged over and the temperature was barely 50.

Thirty Seven years you are a blessed man.

You KNOW I love ya man, but is that an AFTERMARKET rear shock I see on a brand spanking new Tenere?

Hmmmmmm. So unlike you!

I thought you'd at least wear the OEM out before...................

Let me guess, you put the new OEM on the 2012 and transferred the fancy one..??
(You do realize you have abandoned RonH and left him on his own now?)

Regardless, congratulations to you and that amazing girl-friend, wife, mother, BFF, .........
You are truly a blessed man.

You are so correct.
The stock shock on my 12 started leaking oil so I had do get a new one, thought I might as well get a really good one because if I ever got another new bike it would be a new Tenere.
So I put the good shock on the new bike and put the brand new OEM on my 12.

That 17 Blue really is a nice bike, It does everything better than the 12 Blue, except getting dirty, I probable won't take it places the 12 Blue can go.
For one thing that Cat under there looks like it just wants to get smashed. It's huge! Not that great for a dirt bike.
The cruise control is brilliant! I have electronic cruise on the 12 Blue but it's nothing like the 17.
The grip heat control in the dash is so convenient and works so smooth.
Now if Michelle can just get off again in a month I'll take her to Montana on it.

Just saw this RR. Congrats on the 37 years, and on the new bike. Enjoyed the pictures. I like knowing there's still so much I haven't seen yet.
