The 2023 Cache Rally will be held in SIlver City, New Mexico June 5th to June 9th. Yes, that is 5 days. Most of the riders come when they can and leave when they have to get back to work. Last year in Crescent City, Ca. I was there for 3 days, 4 of the guys were there all week, and the others were there a day or two as I recall.
The Cache Rally is a 'no frills' rally. No tee shirts (hence, no wet tee shirt contests..) no pins or patches etc. Just lots of riding during the day and jawing at night. All bikes are invited - last year we had (if memory serves) 2 S10s, 3 or 4 Stroms, a Tiger(s?), KTM, and I don't remember what else. A few years ago there was even a Spyder there and a beautiful classic BMW. The number of attendees is usually less than 15 or 20. And it is always a good time!

If you have heard of the Apache Trail road, it has one end at Silver City. Enter in google maps; Silver City, Lake Roberts, Hillsboro, and Deming.
I have ridden most of the "Best roads" in the States that end up on the lists that different organizations put out and the Apache Trail is in the top 5 IMHO
The Rally HMFIC, Len, will be headquartered at the Silver City KOA. There are numerous other lodging available.
SEE YOU THERE!!

That Apache Trail looks like a great ride. What are the temps like that time if year in NM? It's at altitude, correct? Warm days and cool nights I'd guess?

What is the weather like in New Mexico in June?

Daily high temperatures increase by 6°F, from 86°F to 93°F, rarely falling below 78°F or exceeding 99°F. Daily low temperatures increase by 8°F, from 58°F to 66°F, rarely falling below 51°F or exceeding 72°F.

I am close enough to ride there from Tucson but June is rough in the desert. If this was partially on a weekend I could make it. Some of us are still working.

Both the AC and the Heater are broke on my bike, but I'm going to chance it and make my reservations! ;)

Called today and talked to the very friendly and efficient Mary at the Silver City KOA. We'll be two up and we reserved a cabin for the last three days of the Gathering. Be sure to mention the "Cache Gathering/Rally" or the organizers name, Len Laskowski. We waited to long and didn't get the cabin we wanted, so if you're going you might want to get your reservations soon.

Since I've been in that area quite a bit I'll leave some info here, rides etc;
If you are coming from the north, you will be near the SETI Very Large Array which is in Socorro, NM. Nearby the SETI is Pie Town, just a few miles west is Pie Town, the pies at the "Gathering Place" are mouth watering and should NOT be missed!
some pics here - https://2mbstonestravels.blogspot.com/2020/03/15-p1.html

Riding - put these towns in google maps for three excellent loops:
1 -Silver City - Gila Cliff Dwellings - Lake Roberts - Hillsboro - Silver City. 146 m RT

2 - Silver City - Duncan, Az - Morenci, Az - Alpine, Az - Silver City 314 m RT

3 - Not great riding but interesting is "Tombstone" Az, the very cool "Bisbee", Az, and of course a few miles away, "Whetstone" Az. 420 miles RT
The Cache Gathering is always a Good Time! We're looking forward to seeing you all there!

Just a reminder:
I am currently in possession of the "CACHE" if anyone wants to take-part in travelling with it.
I know the current weather situation is a No-Go for riding, but keep it in mind if you want to pick it up from me and run with it..........

Good reminder! Not a great idea of mine to start it just before winter, but maybe we can get it to 'roam' a bit before the Cache Rally happens next year!

The Apache Trail is on my top ten list of roads, as is the 130 mile Coronado Trail (the 191 from Springerville, Az to Three Way, Az). The Coronado Trail could easily be on the route from Central Valley, Ca to Silver City. Either one is worth the arduous ride.... ....to get to them, to do both is just a bonus!

I still have the Cache!

I will not be able to attend. I'll be in NY during that time.

I had originally hoped to hand-off the Cache to someone else by now, but i know we've had a pretty solid winter here.

It has been a difficult winter, I've logged less winter miles this year than I have any of the 20 previous years. In fact it is snowing here as I type this... But...lets hope we can either get it moving and/or get it to the Gathering....

I'll be going to Placerville, Cortez, and Pagosa Springs et al the last week of April - I'll be two up and have reservations so time is tight, but is there any chance we could meet somewhere along that route?

Barring that working out, if we get some sunny weather maybe we could meet in the middle somewhere for a handoff? If I remember right you live near Denver? I'm in West Valley City, Utah. According to Google, Fruita is halfway between Denver and my house.
Pray for sunny days, and let me know what you think. We could even meet in Green River at the Golden Ratio/Fibonacci sequence art. That would be a good place for a handoff! 20190502_143845 (2).jpg sequence art...

Alan aka "SkunkWorks" and I met today in Fruita, Co for a Cache hand-off. We also had a very enjoyable conversation and lunch.
So I now have the Cache and would like to hand if off to someone........
(sorry for the bad pic, I don't know why it did that)1681099072539.jpg
