2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT

A friend bought the 2020 Tracer. He loves it and it kinda has a quick shifter. It only does it on the up shift. It also didn't work very well.

Last report I had was from the first few hundred miles. He wasn't sure if he'd give it time to break in, or if he was going to get the dealer to address it.
The European manufacturers have quick shifters nailed down to almost perfection for a bike that's ridden on the street. Back many years ago quick shifters were for drag racing full throttle only. For my style of riding a quick shifter is a waste for street riding. Clutchless shifts are seamless on almost any bike when you shift at the proper rpm.

It may even be an option for some road only S10 owners that are looking for a sportier, lighter ride.

Exactly. I like everything about the S10 except for the weight on twisty narrow mountain roads. Looking forward to seeing the new Tracer.

The footpegs look a bit high and back for my dodgy knees, but other than that I like it.

The foot pegs on the new Tracer 9 and 9 GT are adjustable up and down by 15mm, the handlebars are also adjustable fore and aft by reversing the clamps.

I don't feel the weight of my S10 on twisty pavement. I can use the throttle and brakes to control where I want it to go. I also attribute this to my tire selection and suspension settings. Both the Anakee Wilds and Road 5 Trails are amazing in the twisty's. The OEM Battlewings were not so good on anything other than straight highway sections. Setting my suspension to more preload/stiifer damping and also having the raised link helps with cornering.

Now off road is a whole different story. This bike is a beast when rolling in 1st gear and navigating ruts, rocks, switchbacks, etc.

As were the earlier bikes handlebars...

The footpegs would need a full inch down & fwd to be helpful in my opinion

I sat on a buddy's 2015 Tracer today and the footpeg position actually felt more relaxed that I had remembered. I think my main issue with the bike is a non-issue.

In addition the new Tracer appears to have adjustable foot pegs.

It does, but the adjustment is small, iirc its like 15mm? Less than an inch is what i recall. Nice but i wish they had given at least a full inch of adjustment. Adv boots alone will eat up all that adjustment with how tall they are vs street boots.

That problem can be solved by not wearing adv boots on this street bike. ;)

I really hate most track/street boots. Tried many over the decades. Adv boots are the only boots that can deliver both the protection and comfort for actual off bike hiking/walking for me. I wore them long before i rode an adv bike.

You might want to check out boots that have adv features without being overly bulky, like the A*Toucans. http://www.brake-magazine.com/rated-alpinestars-toucan-boot/

Or carry a pair of hiking boots on the back of your bike if that's your plan for the day.

I’m kinda digging MT-09sp if I could add a windshield. I don’t need luggage and could get by with a tank bag or small trunk but the larger tank and longer wheelbase is pretty tempting on the Tracer.

Resurrecting an old thread, but wanted to see if anyone has actually seen a 2021 Tracer 9-GT yet?

I got my ST back in July of 2011 (2012 model) and it is been flawless since new. Was getting a bit tired of the weight (with hard cases, crash bars and skid plates) so sold it last fall for a pretty decent price with no specific models to replace it with.

My son went and ordered a 2021 MT-07 and took delivery a few weeks ago. Really nice bike but a bit small for me and NO wind protection of much options for bags, SO, I went and ordered a 2021 Tracer 9-GT which is "supposed" to show up sometime this May. Oddly, I have not seen much on either the 2021 MT-07 or the 2021 MT-09/Tracer 9 anyplace in the States. Some minor videos from EU but nothing here in the States.

My last bike (before the ST) was an ,07 Honda VFR800, so looking forward to more of a sport-touring ride in the Tracer. Was tempted to just get a new ST but after 10 yrs of the same bike it was time to try something new in the Yamaha lineup.

The Yamaha demo truck gets them first and they still don't have them. They are expected this month and that was confirmed a few days ago. Hopefully, your bike is on the same ship.

Yamaha has product in Japan ready to come over. Shipping is still a problem and unlikely to be resolved soon. Ships are stacked up waiting to unload at Long Beach, CA and trucks shortages continue as well.

When I was doing comparisons I did a back-to-back with the Tenere and the Tracer 900. The Tracer was a lovely engine with a seamless linear power delivery and no power spikes - deceptively quick!

I liked the Tracer but preferred the the Tenere though. The overall package suits my requirements for reasonably swift, uneventful and trouble-free touring. The experiences of all the members on this forum has confirmed my decision is the correct one.

Be nice to have both though! :D
