2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT

To bump an old thread, I traded in my S10 last week on a 2022 Tracer 9 GT. I had ridden an FJ-09 a couple years ago, and while I really liked the motor, there were a few things about the bike that just didn't fit me. A few weeks ago I got to demo the Tracer 9 GT at MotoGP, and I fell in love. I couldn't get it out of my head, and last week I took the plunge and traded. It is a definite change of pace from the S10, and so far it is a blast. It does need a better seat and windshield, but what factory bike doesn't? Pretty much everything else about the bike seems great so far. MY wife still has her Super Tenere, so I'm not leaving the family. Honestly, that made trading mine in a lot easier decision, because I knew I'd have her bike available if I wanted to go and ride some dirt. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask!

Am glad you’re enjoying the new bike. I’ve been looking at the latest version for a while now, look elsewhere, then come back to the GT9 Tracer, it seems to tick all the right boxes and with a bit more HP and loads less weight it’ll have enough go everywhere. I read lots of bad things about buffeting and the screen, I’d been interested in any solutions you find with this. The new Suzuki GT and Kawasaki SX look and sound good, but the lack of centre stand puts me off a bit.

So, at 6’, I actually don’t get a whole lot of buffeting off the screen, but it is noisy. I did put mirror extensions on, which helped. I also put a MRA style spoiler on, which helped more. It’s still a little louder than I want for all day riding, multi day riding, but it’s doable for me. I will replace it at some point, but I haven’t decided with what yet.

New '24 Tracer 9GT+ looks pretty nice. They finally did away with the ugly dual dash and went with a TFT screen. New bodywork looks much nicer too. It finally looks nice enough that I want to see one in person.

I agree....looks nice and lots of tech but it needs shaft drive like the S10 has.

Let’s face it, it’s not going to happen. I like well executed shaft drives, just like Yamaha and Honda do, but it’s a question of cost and weight. Shaft drive has its place but not on a Tracer9 and not on a Tenere9 either, (but what an adventure bike that would be!)
