So - I can't keep my F6B (by far, the best bike I've ever owned) and get a ST. After a year of waffling, I've decided to trade in the F6B on a 2021 (I love the black) ST.

I get the courage up to pull the trigger, and contact a dealer - and he says the 2021s aren't out yet?

CycleTrader and dealers have them listed, but after doing a little research, they're all stock photos. I don't mean to start a "SuperT is discontinued!!11" thread, but anybody know if you can actually buy a 2021?

Sounds like you got your answer, the 2021 MY isn't out yet...in the US. Can't buy them at all in UK, only remainder 2020 stock as import has ceased due to emissions regs. The FJR has gone the same way too.

You can probably buy an S10 in 2021 but it will likely be a 2020 model. No problem with that though because the S10 has only ever had one significant change in it’s life and that was in 2014, so, if you can find a dealer with a brand new bike in stock, my advice is to buy it!

I remember there was a question as to whether the Tenere would be cancelled in the US, since it was cancelled in the UK because of the emissions. If the '21 is not available "yet" in the US. . . . I'd call that cancelled. That being said, the Yamaha US website shows a '21 is available. Matte black tank, along with everything else being black. The blue rims are gone.

Welcome aboard SapperWing. For context, it will certainly help for you to include your location on your profile page (city and state/country is enough, don't need your full address!). As you can already see by the responses here, local laws and regulations impact the availability. The pandemic has also had an impact with factory shut downs and a spike in demand for all recreational products. The last factor affecting availability has been the low volume of sales of the ST, which means dealers are less likely to stock a model that will sit for any length of time on the sales floor. If you really want a 2021 version, you will need to widen your search radius, or see if a local dealer would be willing to order one in for you. As mentioned above, the last major change was in 2014, with some minor revisions being made to the 2017 model, so given how little body work there is, you also have the option of picking up a good used version and making a color change (there are a few threads here documenting those who have taken this path).

Good luck with your search!

Updated profile (I think). I'm stationed at Ft. Carson, CO. Called a few dealers within 400 miles; none of them have 2021s ordered or inbound (once they figured out I wasn't talking about the T7).

Tracking that not much has changed in 6 years, but I'm pretty paranoid on break-in and maintenance. I'll start looking around for a new 19 or 20.... I don't think the 21s exist - sadly (really like the 2021 black scheme!).

Thanks for the help.

Just buy a low mileage Gen2, I don't think there has been any major changes.

Welcome aboard.
If you use the search box you'll find that these bikes are about as reliable as your basic rock, regardless of who gets them or how they are broken in. The engines are just that under-stressed.

Welcome from Texas. I'm gonna echo what Checkswrecks said. I'm a hugely biased Yamafan, but will concede that Honda, Kawi, and Suzi, are pretty much bullet proof also. To me that huge white gas tank on the '20 is a blank canvas. I was lucky enough to get a '17 with the best blue that they made.

All is said, super T as you know it is out of catalog, will the next Super T a tri cylinders or a 4 ... that's the question, I highly doubt it will be 2 cylinders.

The Canada version appears to be the same as the US's. But, our 2020 was white with those beautiful blue wheels. . . . that Electrolyse is torturing me with by using one as an avatar pic. :D
I just made a new one for you , my friend :D

The only aftermarket blue rims I could found was more than a grand (as American said, as least in movies :) ), maybe more around 1500USD
much cheaper, I just checked on internet what could be the price of those blue rims, and found decals : https://moto-sticker.com/YAMAHA-SUPER-TENERE-WHEEL-STRIPES-BLUE

If you really needs those, I don't know the English word but you could go to the place where guys are selling used/dead/destroyed bikes, they usually sell that for a fraction of the price.

Sadly, these machines are more rare than hen's teeth... closest new one is in Topeka - about 8 hrs away. If snow wasn't in the forecast for this weekend, I would have likely ridden the F6B out to try and trade.

On a similar, and more complicated note, I tried to rent a T7 from Colorado Mountain Adventures on Saturday. Scott didn't have one, but he offered me a 1250 GS at the same rate. What an amazing machine... I've never even looked at them, touched one, etc. But riding dusk to dawn, interstate, fire roads, single track, and snow/mud (lucky to have gotten it out), it truly made an impression on me.

Slowly. . . . step away from the Beemer. . . . now run. . . . as fast as you can. :D Personal opinion: Beemer makes a great product. . . . as long as you don't want/need years of trouble free riding. Many here have made the switch because of opinions similar to mine. There's also many here that have had no issues with their GS, and love them. I lived with an RT for seven years. and loved the first three. After the warranty expired so did the love affair. I won't own another one.

I'm not here to bash on them, but, if you are truly interested in them. . . . find some past/present owners and question the heck out of them. Do your due diligence, and research the bike(s). Dirt_Dad just had a service on his. . . . to the tune of $1,100.

No Sir, I'm trackin'... I've read, literally, thousands of posts, and watched hour upon hour of videos. I'm just a Soldier - so yea, money doesn't come easy.... that said, quite honestly, the suspension and ride on the GS outdoes my F6B. It just surprised me - and I had an absolute blast. I took a bit of video for a friend of mine who also rides (hence the trash talk) -
. If the SuperT can do this, I'll be happy.... To be fair, I've only sat on ST at the dealer - who has since sold said new 2019. But if I can beat around like I did this weekend - I'll buy the first one I can get my hands on.

Thanks for the continued advice. I'm tryin' - truly.

Snow, ice, mud is tough regardless (Rampart Range Road - Woodland Park, CO)

Comparing your bike to the GS is like apple v. banana. On those roads, I would prefer the GS. Like I said, my issue with BMW is long term reliability. They're fantastic in the short term. The GS has more bells, and whistles. The Tenere has everything I want/need, (reliability being primary) at a reasonable price.
