The Rumor I heard which is what I said a rumor, is that there will be an updated S10 in 2020. A Year after the T 7 And Yamaha Anniversary year. As not to take away from the T7 excitement.

What is the verdict?
The verdict is that Yamaha is being as tight-lipped as always and we won't know till they announce something, which is usually end of summer at a big show.

Interesting comments about CoG for the S10. Seeing as how the BMW oilhead boxers have the crankshaft/flywheel at the level of the cylinders and a car sized alternator above that I'd guess that the Yam CoG is somewhat lower and it's always felt that way to me coming from an 1150GS which I put almost 100,000 miles on. That goes for pushing it around the garage or riding. What Yam could do is redistribute components so that the fuel tank was under the seat. For the later water cooled BM's the bulk of the flywheel weight may be lower but I won't buy a bike where a failed camchain can drop into the gearbox and lock up the transmission. Yes it has happened although I don't know how many times. Build quality seems patchy to phrase it kindly.

The 1150 was also dire in severe crosswinds, maybe the beak, and the Yam is far better. The air intake above the engine does mean that you have less to worry about in water crossings.

Gentle cruising at UK speed limits I get around 260 miles from a tank of fuel but I have had the bike adjusted for stoichiometric efficiency at Hilltop here in the UK. It also transformed the throttle response and it lives permanently in Sport now as nothing else is needed even in stop start traffic.

I'm sure that if Yam didn't carve the passenger footpeg hangers from solid half inch thick steel they could save a little weight and there must be other areas where they could do the same. The upside of the sturdy construction and stability is that when I hit a small deer at nearly 80mph the bike and I survived and didn't even part company although both fork stansions were bent. Basically until it dies or I get too old to pick it up I'll stick with what I have although a cruise control would be nice. Mines a 2013 bike.

What really appeals though is that I am supremely confident that every time I start the Yam it will get me to my destination. With the BM's being near the bottom of the manufacturers reliability ratings.........? What do I do to it between services? I may check the oil level once or twice and apart from safety related things like tyre pressures and pad wear that is it, as it should be. I even clean it once or twice a year whether it needs it or not. :)
