Add me to list of "If ain't broken, then don't fix it...." Just a couple of things I'd like to see....Maybe add a mode or 3. Such as a "dirt" mode, "Wet pavement" "Street"

As Cycledude said....Regular gas without sacrificing performance. I know the bike appears to run fine with regular. But I don't trust it. With the compression our engines have. But I'm that guy who wants maximum clean burning efficiency from his engines. I know there are situations when there is no choice. (Like a couple of weeks ago 90 Octane was the highest available at a remote gas station.) Any can look up "regular gas in a high compression engine." One might not hear or feel knock or pinging, but that doesn't mean that it's not going on to a certain degree. I'm not saying putting regular gas is catastrophic....just not the maximum clean efficiency.
Maybe a "mode" for regular gas?
My father rides a FJR1300. He had decision between the S10 and the FJR when deciding. The reg. vs. premium gas is what made him decide on the FJR1300. My father never goes off-road and wouldn't use the s10 for off-road.

Something else I'd like to see, but it would probably be too much in the way of engineering.....A better air intake method. Don't like the location of the air box right above the heat of the engine. The front of the bike has to be open and that's why many get the water intrusion in the spark plug recesses. Somehow divert air flow to aid in engine cooling and cooling air to intake...

I seem to recall the new FJRs take premium. Everyone is always asking for more power, at some point you get stuck with premium to help avoid pre-detonation with higher compression that develops more Hp.

You don't need a mode for regular gas, just a knock sensor that adjusts the timing if you have bad or lower octane fuel. Common on cars, I'm not even sure if we already have a knock sensor on the S10.

As for wet, dirt, street modes, you already have those. It's built into your right wrist! :D All any of those modes are for in any bike or car is to save the poor operators from themselves when they lack the skills to moderate their behavior in various conditions. I bet you are already doing that and pretty good at it too. (Otherwise you'd crash)

There are a few peripherals they could add/delete but mostly it could be about 50-60 lbs lighter. As far as performance, there's plenty for me. After living with 130+ RWHP for many years, it's not a big deal for me. I kinda like the fact that I have to put the whip to her for good results (it's been flashed).
Yamaha would have to decide if it wants to participate in the HP class of KTM, Ducati, Triumph, etc. If it does, I think they'd go for a major redesign of the motor. 1200 but maybe a different config (V, triple). Or maybe just a hi performance parallel twin.
This one works for me, but at my age, the next bike will be smaller and lighter for sure.

You're remembering when we had FJRs but the current FJR owners manual says regular.

Projector headlights are what they are. You can change color temp and output to a degree, but nothing transforming. Gauge cluster - What do you want that you don't have? CC is standard on Gen II bikes already, so 2014-on. Regular gas - So fill with that. It runs fine on it until you get to very high temps or heavy throttle use.

Yes, I ignored the self canceling turn signals. ;) That's a love or hate feature and Yamaha goes back and forth, depending on the engineers in charge. I'm in the hate it camp. Build muscle memory. ;D
I suppose maybe the generation 2 gauge cluster has been improved but I’ve never ridden one, on mine the speedometer is constantly changing up and down so much that it’s annoying . The numbers for the odometer should be bigger, a gear indicator with nice easy to read numbers would be nice, I’ve only tried the off road mode a couple times and for me it’s pretty much useless but the indicator for it is way to small and it’s some crazy letters that make no sense to me. I rode a nephews fj09 a couple weeks ago and its gauge cluster is 10 times better than mine.
I find it hard to believe they still even build street bikes without self cancelling turn signals (fj09 no self canceling), yes I know lots of riders say they don’t want or need them but all you have to do is follow them for a while and you will see they also forget to turn them off sometimes, it just contributes to totally unessesarry confusion and possibly even an accident.
Mostly I’m happy with my Tenere but there are some pretty miner improvements that would have made me much happier.

You're only getting premium fuel if the pump has separate hoses/nozzles for each grade; or if you fill up right after someone else gets premium. There's 5.9 gallons in the line/hose; so, usually you're NOT getting premium. He's right mine runs great....until it gets real hot. I stopped paying for premium, and just get regular unleaded. ::001:: And the bikes that I've ridden that had self canceling signals weren't consistent enough. There were time that I found myself riding down the road with a blinker on, for miles.

Maybe a typo here. Our tanks are roughly 5.9 gallons and it's pretty well documented that single hose pumps only deliver about a half liter (slightly more than a pint) of the previous customer's grade fuel. The volume of an 8 ft hose to the nozzle would be under a quart, so that makes sense. As copied from a Shell response:

"The hose and dispensing nozzle are always full of fuel," Shell says, adding that the residual volume in the hose from the last use depends on the diameter and length of the hose but is commonly about half a litre.

My '04 took regular as well. I guess I was remembering someone talking about the RON number. All FJRs still appear to take regular 86 or better pump octane.

@Cycledude - The Gen II dash is better. Odo numbers are larger, speedo is perhaps more steady & it has a gear indicator that is easy to see/read. Err, there is no "off road mode". S & T are more or less Touring and Sport, Sport giving you more reaction with less throttle rotation.

My biggest issue with self canceling turn signals is riders that have them, (my wife included), never cancel their turn signals themselves. And VERY often, ride past a new intersection with the signal still on, confusing drivers and causing more hazard. The guy going down the road with his blinker on w/o obvious turns ahead is perhaps less of a hazard.

I think whomever at Yamaha Mothership decided to name T mode Touring mode, was clueless. Who in the hell cares what mode you're in when you are touring. Putzing down the highway steady throttle most of the time is hardly where T mode comes in handy. Now, if T stood for "Town", for all the stop and go, or "Trail" for those of us that ride a lot of off road, and know how much better it is to ride off road in T mode, that would make sense. Ok, rant over, carry on. LOL

What i would like would be the ability to stay in one TCS mode (choice) instead of defaulting to Full at restart and the ability to turn ABS off.

As a new owner I would like the above along with the FJR’s gear indicator in its dash. What good is a readout if it doesn’t show what gear you’re in when the clutch is engaged?

Self canceling signals would be nice too. Overall I’m pretty satisfied.

One option that comes to mind that BMW & Triumph has cashed-in on,among others, is a low suspended version. Low seat plus low suspension would create a neat motard version.

The S10 hits many of my sweet spots - $$$, maintenance/ reliability, versatility, etc. I don't care too much about added screens to the dashboard, but I do like the electronic suspension, heated grips and wish they would consider adding MSC (Motorcycle Stability Control) soon.

That one time in band camp (funny movie quote for the folks that don't know)..... I was blasting though 1/2 mile long silt bed just south of Moab, Mmmmmmmmmmm POW--- Pow,....MMmmmmMMmmmmm. Pow..... Pow.....
(my rev limiter sound) LOL

On a serious note, I'm human and love motorcycles. People always look at other bikes and maybe want something 'new'. I have before, but every time I ride my Tenere I tell me self, this bike has more than enough power and will take me anywhere I want to go..... It will still do 100 off road and blast everything, on or off road Ive ever wanted to do..... Still love it ! !
First off, you always get me pumped up to ride! And although I'm in the Rockies WITHOUT my Jaxonized Gen 1, I honestly have no urge to choose a different recipe (bike) for the Big Pig mission statement. (REAL RTW motorcycle)

Not saying I'm against Yamaha facelifting here and there, but no reason to go off and chase a competitor's wandering away from the true genre now.

I love Yamahas approach. What looks like stubbornness to some, looks like firm confidence in the intended target to me.

If your current Tenere is boring you, drop it off in Fort Worth and dare you-know-who to jazz it up a bit. :)

OH, by the way, I miss you crazy guys.
I'm playing Pawpaw this summer.

I ride 95% or more on-road. The only thing I would change is adding self-cancelling turn signals. She could be lighter, but that just isn't happening. I rode the FJR a month ago and I loved the motor, but the seating position would kill me on long days.

When and if they "upgrade" I hope they don't ruin the bike. The new goldwing for example. Everyone bitched for 17 straight years for a new bike, now it's reality, and a huge downgrade over the older model for most guys that owned and enjoyed the older one.
The wing guys are still bitching about the 17 year old 1800....alot of them still prefer the 1500. The new wing is better in every way, minus the smaller luggage capacity but it wasn't great before.

Everybody has their version of perfect. I'm a realist....NOTHING is perfect. The best I hope for is "I like this a lot". ::001::
