The Yamaha S10 is the equivalent to a Toyota Land Cruiser as they are both Japanese, functionaly styled, ideally practical, competent, beyond reliable and priced within reason.
Have you priced a Land Cruiser lately? You might be in for a shock.

I would say other than the DCT that both bikes are fairly equal. The Tènèrè is more comfortable particularly for my pillion and easier maintained. The DCT 21" front wheel was less comfortable on road but worked in favour off road. I was less enamoured to take Tènèrè off tbh. Overall the Tènèrè would and is my choice

Ok thanks for your insight on the AT vs. the Tenere.
I shall find out for myself in about three months.

Kind of funny reading all the replies. Haven't totally made my mind up yet, and the biggest hurdle is eating the financial investments I made in the GS. It has been a great bike so I can't complain, but I do know the Tenere was a better fit.

Going to sleep on this for a couple more weeks before I make the change...but man I miss my 2014 Tenure. I hope a new one will give me the same bond.

Or anything for that matter. I saw on the news that the average price of a new car/truck is $37,500. Which tells me two things. 1) Y'all are spending WAY too much on cars/trucks. 2) Minimum liability insurance isn't going to cover much; it would suck to be making payments on a car that you don't own, and your insurance didn't cover. o_O

Well, I look at it this way. I'll be 69 years young come June. One of my late uncles tried to take his money with him, hmmmm, didn't work out. I'm gonna enjoy myself as long as I can and that's why I bought a new Tenere and looking forward to the upcoming riding season.
Hey Tenere guys and gals. I'm adding some LEDs to my new bike. I found a company in eastern Tennessee called electricalconnection.com . I ordered a part # 08112 and # 08111.
Have a look for yourself as this will "plug and play" into the bike's wiring to allow installation of various electrical outlets. The toll-free number works from Canada just so you know. Staff was real helpful. I won't have these parts in hand until I return from vacation. Or for that matter, I won't likely see my bike until April sometime.

I did say "priced within reason".
Toyota 4Runners, Tacomas and Sequoias have also become a bit insanely priced.

I too made a big mistake. I had a 2011 and 2014 Ze Tènèrè riding approx 35k. I bought a GSA in 2016 trading Tènèrè against it. Since that I've had an S1000XR, GS LC lowered, Africa Twin DCT and tomorrow I'm back to a Super Tènèrè. I'm so excited as I know it's the bike for me. I've lost a lot of money around, 9k in this trip but life is not a rehearsal I'm looking forward to the Spring.

You made me look. Starting price for a Land Cruiser, $85K. Starting. 4Runner not so bad, 35K. Happy enough with my Tacoma. When I can not use my S10. Hey, they have a blue 4Runner that almost matches my bike. Hmmmm....

Bought my 4dr Jeep for 28k, brand new. But, I had to order it; you won't find one on the lot for that price.

You mentioned an Africa Twin DCT in the mix. I've just traded in my 2016 AT Clutch model (30,000 km in two seasons) for a new 2018 Super tenere. What were your thoughts on the AT. How did it compare on power/performance against the Tenere?? Thanks...

I sold a 2011 S10 for a 2016 Africa Twin DCT. Rode it for 2 years and experienced a lot of problems with it that convinced me to dump it and go back to an S10. This time I got a Gen II 2015 ES and love it.

As far as performance goes, the AT feels quite a bit lighter and more nimble than the S10. But the S10 has much better wind protection and handles loads (for example camping gear) way better than the AT. With a weekend's worth of camping gear on it the Honda would get really light in the front and actually get head shake going around corners. I think Honda put too much emphasis on making it handle quickly with the 21" front wheel at the expense of stability. The S10 is rock solid no matter how much of a load you put on it. The AT DCT hauls the coals pretty quickly when you twist the wrist as it shifts quickly to stay on the boil,, but the S10 is a lot gruntier. The first thing you should do, though, is get your ECU flashed by AVC. It will really make a good motor great.

The AT does have a big advantage on dirt due to the lighter weight, longer stroke suspension and 21" wheel. But for bouncing down dirt roads the S10 is fine....

Finally, the overall build quality of the S10 is far better than the Honda, the traction control works better, the cruise control is priceless on longer trips and the tubeless wheels are much better than the cheap dirt bike wheels the AT comes with.

I'm the proud owner of a '14 St. Actually I'm the second and now the fourth owner after selling to my brother and then buying it back. It is that good. In the meantime, needing something to ride, I bought a '12 Vstrom 1000 that I really like but it has the dreaded chain drive and no Cruise Control. If the strom had these items, it would be perfect for me. If the ST was as light as the Strom, it would be perfect. I'm considering selling both and finding a low mile BMW R 1200RS. Theoretically I would have the best of both bikes, even lighter. I need lighter these days and want the goodies and don't get on the dirt at all. ANYONE want to help me out here? Thinking IF I could Lower the ST, the weight would not bother me. HELP.

There is the lowering kit or links. Everyome is selling it. Not sure how the suspension works when lowered.

Lowering Links or Dog bones as some call them for rear suspension is the easy fix for the rear. How about the front?: Can I adjust the fork tubes up in the triple clamps? or ???
