Hi all,
I’ve just obtained a ‘17 parts bike with only about 2,000 miles on the clock. Hoping to replace some worn parts on my ‘12 with 97k miles.

So far I’ve harvested a mirror!

what I really need is a rear shock absorber. The 17 has electronics suspension though, is it possible to upgrade mine? The parts bike did not come with an instrument cluster, but it does have the handlebar controls for suspension.

Also, I was thinking of upgrading the clutch basket. Some other little bits and pieces which I probably don’t have to ask about. Then I think I will try to sell the engine assembly on eBay for about $1000.

Tips, comments, suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Confirm with Tabasco, but I think the motor is an easy switch. I'd keep the '17's, and sell the '12's.

Shock conversion to OE function would be difficult. ES shock (and forks for that matter) can be adjusted with a stepper motor controller and simple program on your laptop. You'd be money ahead to sell the shock and use funds to buy a nice rebuildable aftermarket shock. Keep the '17 engine, lots of incremental improvements over your '12.

Great advice, good idea to sell the OM ‘17 shock and get something better/conventional for the ‘12. Question, if I were to swap in the ‘17 motor-any changes need to be made? The parts bike did not come with an ECU, Can I use all the electronics from the ‘12?

Message Tabasco. IIRC, somebody just did this recently with his advise.
