On a short week long trip out BC way and stopped in to a Yamaha Dealer in Vernon. Big mistake. Left with a new 14 ES. Hate the color. Gray primer but the deal was just too good to resist. My old blue 2012 S10 had 58,000km/36,000 miles on it and my local dealer told me to get lost basically. These guys wanted my trade and offered me more than I could sell privately and knocked off $1500. off the new bike. Like I said, too good to resist. Was holding out originally for a Standard blue 2014 but no one had any. Must say the ride home was enjoyable. Not sure how to describe the new ride other than much more refined, more power, smoother and just a hell of a lot nicer overall. Many extras compared to the old. Love the cruise control. Still checking out the ESA. Only 600kms so far but seems to be getting better mileage and that's not babying it. They installed my titanium Leo Vince off big blue but now I have to go shopping for crash guards, skid plate, maybe a windshield. The stocker is brutal but I also salvaged my Madstad and have it installed even though its not the right one for the 2014. Very happy so far.

Congrats on the new bike, I've been thinking off trading mine in with 55,000 km. You mind me asking what deal you got.

The ES is known as the XT1200ZE here in Europe. I'm delighted with mine too, white, with some black graphics. I know that grey you mean - I remember flat black on a previous steed; always difficult to clean as I couldn't use polish/certain cleaners. Gloss paint seems so much easier.

The standard screen adjustment, 4 positions, is not as good as Madstad, but with winglet deflectors the airflow seems pretty good to me. The new instumentation is far better, although it's annoying when that the gear position indicator doesn't show the gear selected when the clutch is pulled in..........WHY? Don't get me wrong, it's better than my previous Versys1000; Kawasaki forgot the gear indicator altogether - not a huge problem, but saves me looking for 7th gear.

Although the power increase is a best marginal, the 2014 engine seems to have a bit more urgency about it. Admittedly my experience of the original S10 was the loan of a press fleet bike just after launch. What are your thoughts, having ridden new/old back to back?

Enjoy the new bike ......... KEN ::26::

Well thanks guys! Put a few more miles on yesterday. Don't want to get too aggressive till my Crash Guards, Skid Plate and Extenda Fender arrive next week sometime. The color is even starting to grow on me. Originally I hated the flat grey. Kind of neat how you can adjust the 3 position heated grips for temperature. Big difference between T and S mode on the new bike compared to the old. S seems to have more snap and T seems more lethargic.

I love a good deal too...

My 74 cb750 came with big metal flake orange paint. At first I hated it, but now when I see one I get all nostalgic.
