2014 cruise not working

Hello everyone,
I have a 2014 ES model and the cruise is not working. I am the second owner and I never seen the cruise work. The amber light will come on when cruise is turned on. I get no fault codes and the amber light stays on solid. I suspect one of the the clutch or brake switches. Does anyone have a service manual with troubleshooting instructions and wiring diagrams? Getting this information would greatly assist me in tracking down the problem.

Thanks for the help!

There's been a recall on the break light switch just recently. Could be your problem.

So far that recall has not been announced in the US to my knowledge, but Desoto is correct, a faulty front brake light switch is most likely the problem. There's a thread on here somewhere where someone took apart, cleaned, lubricated and reinstalled that switch with positive results.

It might be some other issue, because the amber light is supposed to stay on when the cruise is activated. It is when it blinks that there is a problem.

I was aware of the Recall but didn't know which brake switch is was. I'll try to test and at the same time contact Yamaha. This is an European bike as I am currently in Turkey.

I know this is a long shoot......
But do you know that you have to "turn on" the cruise, and THEN set it to your speed?
(because it sounds like it is working)

Yeah, two steps, turn on, then press “set”.

i had the same problem last year. I solved, not under warranty (motorcycle registered in 2015) by replacing the front brake switch (in fact the subject of an official yamaha recall in the last few weeks)

Contacted the dealer and will be getting the brake switch replaced after New Years.
Thanks

The brake light switch fault usually results in the orange cruise light flashing which then prevents you from setting cruise.
Are you sure you are setting cruise after you turn it on?

I've been hounding my local Yamaha dealership for years on this with no satisfaction. They just kept spraying the front wheel speed collector with Brakleen which let it work for a short time, then blinking cruise light indicator, I stop and restart the bike, and it again holds most of the time for a short while. Extremely frustrating. I will be at my local dealership about it when they open, and have them check on recalls. Mine is a 2016. If I have to, I'll just pay for them to replace the front brake switch and see what happens.
