I have a small toy hauler and want a smaller bike for off road. I do not want fuel issues from a carbureted bike in the RV so this would be a lower cost option. I'm a casual off road guy soon need to be bomb proof.

Was a BMW brand this year so Beemer haters I get it.

I would like to hear from anyone with first hand experience as owner or ride companion on this bike.

Sorry I'm not an owner but I can tell you my buddy had one in his shop for repair. As long as you leave it stock it's a solid bike. He had a customer that did some "internet tweaks" that messed up the electrical system. As you already know it's a very heavy bike for a dual sport. A little trick to keeping a carbed bike in your RV is to simply drain the float bowl when traveling.

Thanks ..... there is an aftermarket carb for the 650l that helps. But I never smell anything when the S10 is in RV even sleeping with the bike in the trailer on longer road trips.

I had one for 5 years, enjoyed riding it on gravel roads, geared it down one up front and it was much better at highway speeds. Reliable, only changed the oil. Did not make any significant changes other than comfort/fit. Sold it to a friend who crashed it, got it totaled and still sold it for more than I got from him! They are orphan bikes, so parts may prove to be an issue, but there are a lot of common parts with the BMW 650s. Key for me was the 58 horsepower out of the 650 vs 45ish on a lot of others. Solid 53mpg with a 300lb rider! Cafehusky.com is a great resourse and there is a good info thread on ADVrider.

I have two, a '13 Strada with ABS and a '14 Terra. Both are very reliable but the air filter arrangement could allow dirty air to bypass it if close attention was not made to the air filter seal. I replaced both with a UniFilter sock which required modifying the air inlet to the throttle body -- They are fuel injected-- no float bowl as on a carbed bike. Also there was an update to the ECU which corrects a stalling problem on initial application of throttle.

As long as you don't want to bang through rough terrain, the suspension is quite good, good torque and plenty of punch.

Have almost 90k miles on mine. Its a joy every time i sit on it. I need to get recall done, have high idle sometimes. But doesn’t cause any problems.
