Hello all,
I have a 2012 super tenere. Life happened and the bike has set for quite a while. I began to get it running by draining the fuel and replacing the battery. Key on, dash came up and a did its sweep. It took me a few times trying to start it to notice I wasn’t hearing the fuel pump come on. I was getting 12v to the harness and no resistance when checking the pump, but decided to replace it. Replaced the pump, first try it started but will not run. I read through a couple of hard start threads and tried pulling FI fuse and doing that sequence with the same results. It will fire, but not keep running. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm sure that far more knowledgeable people will chime in on this but my gut feeling is the injectors need cleaning. It's giving enough for tick over but no more. Or the 'throttle by wire' is misbehaving? As I say, just thinking out loud.

My 2013 won't start either. It will turn over fine but not start. I have change battery, spark plugs, and took fuel pump off and inspected tea bag style fuel screen on pump. I do get fuel to fuel rail. When fuel line is unclipped at fuel rail and I turn key on pump flows out about 2 inches. My friend thought without Super Tenere experience it probable should be pumping much harder. Who knows the PSI rating to this OEM pump? I took spark plugs out and attached to coil then push start button. I could see a spark jumping to the frame. I ohmed out coils and they ohmed within spec. When I crank over bike it turns over normal. I have tried pulling the EFI fuse and cranking. I have taken plugs out over night to make sure cylinders wore dry. Original plugs looked healthy too. I have removed battery terminal hoping to reset Computer. I can smell fuel after some cranking like it flooded but why do I hear no combustion. Bike has 27,000 miles. Maintenance except valve check has all been done. I have also tried the EFI fuse pull/crank 3/4 throttle turn as suggested. Battery voltage 14 V I have also put fresh fuel in tank. I also removed top of air box, open throttle body gates and sprayed in Starter fluid and all I got was a back fire flame but it never turned over engine. When you crank starter you can feel it pumping air from cylinders. Can someone please give info to help??????

Have you had the wiring recall done ?

If it fires don’t let off the start button until it actually keeps running.

I am pretty sure fuel injection is not opening at all. I am not sure why. I disconnected fuel line on rail and when I turn key fuel pumps out of hose. When I check plugs they are dry. I tried starter fluid in intake and bike started. Once starter fluid was burnt off it stops of course because it is not getting fuel. Now I think it is either Computer, or clogged injectors or fuel pump pressure.

I have not done the factory recall, I read about it and didn't think I needed it because it has ran fine for years.

It's important to run a fault codes check in the diagnostic menu on pre-2017 bikes, before getting the spanners out.

Clearly something is amiss, but presumably the engine 'trouble' warning light has not come on. If that is the case, then Yamaha suggest checking for a potential fault with the TPS, APS, coil sticks or Injectors.

Given the circumstances, if using E10 or higher, one has to think the injectors may be blocked, but can we first see what the diagnostics tell us.

Like testing the coils for spark, can the fuel rail be lifted to see if the injectors are spraying?
