First and foremost...its awesome to have a vendor section on the forum. Thanks to both the folks that put this together and the vendors who participate here. I have a few questions so let me get to it:

1. US spec bikes are not scheduled till may of 2012. Anyone know if there is a design change or modification that may impact aftermarket parts available now? (I would assume they were prototyped and designed for the 2010 bikes)

2. When can I order and when will parts for US bound Super Tenere's be expected to be in stock and ship?

I am starting to compile a long list and I need to have my Farkle pile grow between now and delivery......

Thanks!

Smart man... Start buying now so that you can put small dents in the savings istead of one big crater when the bike arrives.

The SUper Ten will be here MAY 2011 as a 2012 Bike!!!! Don't scare us like that man!!!

Only your dealer or area rep from Yamaha will know for sure when the accessories will be delivered.

Sorry if anyone was misled by the post title. What I was wondering was when the bikes are delivered in May 2011.....will the current group of aftermarket (non-oem) parts fit. Will there be any modifications for US deliveries or will our 2012's be the same as the current Euro models?

grusnt, most generally, the bike will cosmetically be the same. We might see a decrease in HP rating with how lean we have to run the bikes here in the states, but other than that, nothing much will be different. It wouldn't be that hard maybe in the future to have a dealer tweak or add some fuel back to the bike to get it back to the Euro spec rating of 108HP. Just my thought.

I'd be surprised if the US spec bikes will change from the current Euro bikes with respect to the common luggage, windshield, seats, protection pieces, etc. accessories. So buying this stuff now should be relatively risk free with respect to stuff fitting later.

But I have to ask.... why? While I hate to discourage business with the great vendors we have working with the S10, between now and May 2012 there could be a lot of new options, perhaps cheaper pricing, and more experiences of others to draw upon on what works and doesn't. Why take money out of the bank now (or worse, use credit) to buy stuff that will sit gathering dust in the garage for six or seven months? And although most of us are committed to buy the bike, sometimes circumstances change or something comes along that makes us re-think our decisions. Flexibility is good.

My preference is always to buy a motorcycle more/less stock and ride it for a month or three and let it tell me what works and what doesn't. If there is anything that is universal on motorcycle forums is that people are farkle-crazy and you'll find no end of recommendations for "must have" accessories, many which I view as marginal with respect to usefulness or improvement. (Again, sorry to express this view to aftermarket vendors, but it is how I feel.) I prefer to let the bike tell me what it needs to work better, not motorcycle forums.

Why? Because I tour extensively on my motorcycles. I'm also retired military (USMC) and now an engineer by profession so I tend to know what I want, based on design, functionality and materials. And I like have everything staged and prepared in advance of use. I don't always think OEM may be the best solution out there. For example, I will buy Micatech panniers for the S-10 based on my experiences with them on other bikes. I like a free flowing exhaust and like the carbon fiber look, so I will research then buy what I like. I know REMUS and Staintune from by BMW's and others like WASP and Anakrapovic have or will have silencers ready. Its not that hard to read a dyno, but the sound may be harder to quantify. The rear cargo plate is plastic and known weakness as designed by Yamaha, so I want to have a replacement on hand and ready when I get my bike. For me..now is the time to research and I will buy and stage my additions just prior to the start of the May delivery dates. There are other items which I will add after I ride for a while and see how everything works. (pegs, adjustable windshield kits, most of the ergonomic stuff ). I want to ride the s-10 home, add the items needed for my type of riding and get the brake in mileage done so I can start touring.

As far as Forums go....I don't follow any advice blindly nor would I advise anyone to do so. I do think its just smart to ask our European and Asian riders who now have the Tenere's what there thoughts are and there views on what works and why. "Must have" is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I don't see the farkles I'm looking at as items which for me would provide "marginal" improvements. I need panniers to carry my gear as well as a rear rack that I can lash more of my kit to so they fall under necessary equipment. My concern lies more with any running production modifications between model years. I don't want to buy pannier racks only to have mounting points moved for example. Twisted Throttle has been on the ball with PM's concerning some of my questions. Besides its just FUN to look at this stuff!

We're in violent agreement - no where did I say that OEM was better, that modifications weren't desirable, or that doing research wasn't a good idea. I was just saying that I don't get buying stuff now and letting it sit for six months, when new options (and opinions about options) are coming out every day. And sometimes the opinion that really matters is the one you form after riding the bike for a month or two. But suit yourself.

Concur with that thought process. I've tended toward the OEM kit at present ..... was the only kit available. I tend toward stuff that does not require radical adaptation and the can easily be upgraded as new material is released. Love the whole concept of farlking though .... ;D

Maybe I didn't phrase this correctly or communicate my thoughts. This is my process for buying farkles....I put a spread sheet together with a reference number, item type, item vendor, price, website, order date, ship date, arrival date and warranty information. That is why I asked when parts are available and when they ship. This method allows me to add parts and vendors to my list as they become available. When I'm ready to make a purchase decision, I simply filter on the parts type and review all the items I have found. Any reviews are listed in the comments section along with the url. This process takes time and I will not even begin to place orders till about Apr at the earliest. I also have a record of when the warranty period is up along with the total price of any additional parts I add to my motorcycles. I guess everyone approaches this in a different manor.

Sounds great! If you wanted to share that spreadsheet, I'm sure there would be a lot of interested folks.

I'll make it available to anyone who would like it as we get closer to delivery of the 2012's. The only farkle sure of at this point are the Micatech V2 bags.

http://www.micatech.net/v2cases.htm

The following is a bit of the e-mail I got back from Sue Roth at Micatech:

"Hello Bob,

Thank you very much for your email and your interest in our products. I appreciate your compliments about our Pilot luggage. We do have a lot of satisfied customers.

We will be selling the V2 cases to fit the Super Tenere on the SW-MOTECH side carriers
.
"

and this e-mail details the arrival dates for the product:

"We're expecting the racks to be in this country December 20th so we'll receive them shortly thereafter."

and the pricing:

"Yes, the sideracks are included with your V2 order and all hardware needed to mount the cases to your bike. Our new reduced prices offer a set of 37L (8") V2s for $930, two 45L (10") V2s for $970 and one 37L and one 45L for $950."
