I want to add a spot to carry my 7 foot one piece fishing pole. I’m thinking about adding a short piece of PVC to exterior of one of the bags to sit the handle in,and have the pole stick straight up in the air. I am hesitant with puncturing my bags though and would orefer the mount to be removable. I have the oem side bags and racks, im trying to conceptualize some sort of holder I would attach to the back handle of the bag and be able to remove it for longer toad trips. have you any suggestions? have you mounted a fishing pole carrier to your bike- if so how?

I carry my fishing gear on my bike . I can carry at least one rod . I will look for a photo or take a new one some time this weekend and post it for you... don't need no PVC.... now your OEM bags may be a problem as I use touratech racks and boxes . I'm headed to a friends house today ,he has OEM boxes . I will see if my system works for his bike..... one caveat , I have not carried my gear on my 19 ES but did carry on my 12 non ES.

nice right side view of a bike .... I attach the reel of the rod to rightsize passenger peg with the rod running parallel of the subframe exiting the rear of bike by the passenger grab handle so the rod is between the box and the bike. it is out of the way. if I'm not carrying a rod I keep a umbrella there .

I’ve used this setup for about 15 yrs. Have used it on Connies, GS’s , HD Ultras , and now my Super T.
1 1/2 piece of pvc ,Velcro and a safety strap . Cut to fit the handle of the reel .

You don't have to make the mount permanent. Just make a mount from some PVC or ABS pipe (ABS is better, it doesn't shatter in an impact) You could attach the pipe to a small cutting board as a backing, and cut some slots in the cutting board for nylon straps with quick release buckles. Attach the pipe to the backing board with some metal strapping, The straps go around the pannier and are secured by the quick release buckles. Now you have a fishing pole mount that doesn't require making any holes in your panniers.
