Great deal on the tool the original poster put the link to. Why fool with 1/2" bolts, spark plug sockets, 1/2" couplers ect, if for basically the same price you can get the correct tool for the job?

I did it because I needed the tool at the time and it took about 3 minutes to make it.

Because for $1.73 at any Home Depot the 1/2" coupler IS the right tool for the job and I can have several so one is on the bike, one is in the shop wheel stuff, and one is in the portable tool kit.

Careful with 1/2" couplers - they may have a different wrench size than a 1/2" nut - at least the ones I recently purchased at ACE (for the intended rod-coupling purpose)

True - The ones I have are nice and snug, but I've seen some which are smaller across the flats and sloppy when inserted.

I used the back of a spark plug socket that fit just well.
Worked Perfectly. Needed it right now and could not find a 19mm hex at any local hardware stores. The 1/2" threaded coupler I picked up from ACE was too sloppy in the axle bolt, but the spark plug socket fit like a glove. Thanks for this tip.

Why stress over needing another tool if the sparkplug socket fits the front axle??? Less crap to carry with you.

2nd that. The socket I use had absolutely no other use or need. I happen to have it and now it is a S10 front wheel shaft removal tool.

Because you are trying to engage a hole, not something a wrench can fit on.

Sorry, I would call it an allen key. For a hex nut I would use a spanner. Wrenches are not a term I would normally use unless it was relating to torque!

I took the cheap (free) route and got a bolt with a 17mm head on it, screwed a 19mm nut on the bolt and hit it with a welder. Small, cheap and works great.

::026:: I planned ahead, got on Amazon, and had the correct tool 2 days later with free shipping. BUT, I am curious, and a little peeved, as to why Yamaha has not included this VERY important piece in the factory tool kit.
