14+ pannier rack changes. I did something dumb.

So I ordered panniers for my beloved 2012 tenere. I have wanted the holan panniers and after breaking off my stock pannier (dumb mistake number 1) I decided to pull the trigger.

Then I stumbled upon a very good deal on a '14. I always thought I'd replace my tenere with another tenere, but being 2012-2013 is getting older and older it seems dumb to not be upgrading parts for pre '14 tenere.

So my question is, what difference will there be attaching the 2012 pannier racks to a 14+? I apologize for no specific details as i have not even touched my new panniers yet.

What Coyote said. Guys have been switching stuff over for years. There's a few things that can't make the jump. Windshield, winglets, and maybe side stand come to mind. . . . but, not much else.

I moved a set of Holan's from my '12 to the '18 without major issues. In fact, the pannier mounts lined up better than they did on the '12. Take your time and leave the hardware loose when installing. I also added a couple washers as spacers to better square up the mounts.

The installed package is nice and tidy...overall width is less than my FJR. Enjoy!

Adding: I took a dremel to my GEN I winglets and installed them on the '18. Easy to do!

The only thing I’ve heard is some question of interference from the ES model’s right side cover on one of the aftermarket sets, forget which one. The standard models are the same across generations.

You can fit a Gen 1 screen to a Gen 2 if you remove the adjustment Iron ware and pack out the 2 lower mountain screws by 1/4” You actually don’t really need to pack them out but the screen may just touch the bodywork ever so slightly.

I know the Touratech racks have a different set up for the ES but supply the parts to fit either bike. Not an issue if you are buying new but something to think about if you are picking up a used set.

ES racks are deff not the same as non ES.
May be true for some aftermarket brands, but the Yamaha factory racks are the same for both. When I ordered mine, there was no choice between ES and non ES and they fit fine on my ES.

Pretty sure the Givi Trekker Outback frames are the same as well.

On my '18, the LH rack support is mounted outside the passenger peg. The RH side is mounted inside the peg. Depending on your selected spacers for upper mounts, racks will shift side to side. I experimented with stacked nuts for the LH and RH spacers.
