Hi! My 12 volt socket has ceased to work. Anyone have any idea why? I check the fuse but its fine
Try a new fuse, sometimes fuses look good but are not..test with an ohm meter for continuity.
Next have a look at the wiring loose or disconnected broken wires.
The Super Tenere's aux plug is fused at only 3 AMPS...so, no airpumps please.

Thanks guys, yes i only checked visually, I will check with the meter and follow up
Additionally possibly corrosion or be sure to test the socket with a volt meter or plug in something else car GPS etc.

When you take the cover off on the side to check the fuse, right above that fuse block is a large bundle of wires that passes through into the center area of the bike. Trace the 2 wires from the bottom of the 12v plug to that bundle. The 2 wires coming off the 12v plug hit a connector just where that big bundle passes through. It will be on the outside, side, and easy to see/locate. Make sure that it is connected. Doubt its this, but while you have the cover off 2 seconds to check.

Another thing to troubleshoot, and the easiest. Try a different 12v device/charger. The one you use may have popped its own internal fuse. Some of those use the old school glass 10amp round ones that break if you look at them sideways.

on mine, it looks like my accessory plug is driven off of a relay that's hidden to the right of the battery and drives all the accessory/aux wiring. to be honest, i don't know if that's from factory, but on mine it seems to tie right into the factory harness. perhaps yours is the same? my first step though would be to check that the port is actually getting power, then work your way down the harness with continuity and power tests until one or the other goes live

Probably an aftermarket relay. No need for one as OEM since the circuit is fused at only 3A.

I sensed that might be the case, appreciate you confirming. I have the wiring diag on my shop wall, and all the times fiddling with the wiring i've never actually looked to see if the relay was on the diagram, i just assumed it was because the previous owner did such an awesome job tying it in :D ..

Im 99% its the fuse... this 12V plug is virtually useless unless its for your phone only... If I may make a suggestion to everyone, get a heavy duty marine 12V plug and replace the stock one. Add 10-12g wire with the appropriate inline fuse 15-20-25A plugged directly to the battery, not into some fuse block. Now when your in a bind you can plug in almost anything you want and actually get to use the plug.... """air compressor""" Much more usable.

If the relay is OEM, that would indicate there are other devices upstream in the harness besides the 12V outlet on that circuit.

looks like the entire accessory circuit was moved over onto the relay. my hand warmers, front and rear powerlets, aux charge (for battery charging with key off), and aux lighting plug.
it appears to me that the previous owner moved it all over and then beefed up the wiring to support the higher amperage devices like the onboard(ish) air pump, big spotlights and higher wattage auxilliary lighting.

funny thing is, when i had the entire harness off, everything lined up, color for color, plug for plug, i apparently selectively ignored that relay hah

Is it the stock unit ? If so it has a lock ring at the bottom. Un screw that and pop it out. Make sure to upgrade the wire diameter along with the proper fuse when you install your new one that you choose. There are MANY styles to choose from. With a fuse, I wire mine directly to the battery.

For the umpteenth time...

The socket WIRING is only big enough for 3A so do NOT put a heavier fuse in.

Phones are OK but don't try to plug in a 10A GPS or heavier load. Accessories need a dedicated source of power.

Visually checking the fuse frequently finds nothing. Use an arm meter across it, and then from the fuse to the center pin of the socket.

Hmm, my zumo 550 with an attached XM radio only draws an amp or two.

I modified the plug on my XT to USB and run it off a USB converter in the SAE plug. No problem
