No help with repairs, other than plastic welding or epoxy. But the reason it failed at the top mount is likely due to the bottom mount not carrying any load. With the pannier mounted, loosen all of the lower mount bolts and peg mount bolts, then push the bottom mount up until it touches the...
I bought a new BMW r100rs in 1982, had 1 yr unlimited mileage warranty. The 3 yr warranty was introduced in 83 and was retroactive to include my 82, sweet! The unlimited mileage part was retained in Canada but restricted to 60,000 miles in USA a few years later. I don’t know about current bmw...
It varies from dealership and with salespeople in the same dealership. I bought a used T12 last month, it was listed at $6000 which I thought was very fair but I was in no hurry to drive 6 hours round trip on the interstate to go see it. I did phone them just to get details, not to haggle , but...
My valve cover is already on so I can't test your theory about the chain loading.
My observation is the rear strand of chain and the rear guide become loose as the left intake valves are opening, so that's where I set my Graves to take up most of that slack.
With the oem tensioner installed...
The aluminum engine block will expand with heat more than the steel cam drive parts, so the chain would be tighter with the engine hot, no?
And good see some dirt on your engine, I feel better now. :)
Cool stuff @Ossaboy2867 , you have an interesting career .
I have the clutch cover off, before removing the original chain and gen3 tensioner I measured the gap between the case and the rear chain guide at 25mm. The guide and chain were very tight, could not feel play anywhere.
With the new...
I’ve never had a problem with any cam chain tensioner, but with 100,000kms on my gen 2 version and forum talk of them failing I decided to replace it with a new gen 3. I now have 170,000 on the gen 3 and decided to go with a Graves manual because my engine sounds quite ‘rattly’ compared to my...
Well gee.... I'm in the process of shimming valves, new cam chain and replacing my 3rd generation tensioner for a new Graves manual unit. What's not to like with the manual CCT? And your bike looks much cleaner than mine, What's up with that?
Use the "high" mileage as leverage to beat the price down. I recently bought a very nice 2015 ES, it was priced very fair, actually a bit too low and made me suspicious about even going to look at it. But after watching the ad for several weeks I went to see it, looks great, runs great, but has...
I just installed grip puppies on my 2015, didn't remove the bar weights. Just a bit of dish soap smeared around and slid the foam grip over the weights and onto the grip.
I still have mine, but it's nowhere near perfect. Looks not bad from 50 feet, but numerous drops, spills, and one crash over 270,000 kms resulted in several dents, faded paint, broken plastic, and general used bike petina.
I would order the specific part for my model year, if the later part arrives instead I would use it.
I use only Yamaha filters, torqued to spec and replaced every 2nd oil change, without issues. I do remove and drain the filter before reuse.
I bought this red 2015 ES in Florida, nicely equipped with oem panniers, vstream shield, Sargent seat, Altrider engine guards, Akrapovic muffler & Anakee tires. 'Red' will be my winter bike and 'old yellow ' can now rest for 5 months and be my summer bike in Canada. No more trailering back and...
