Visiting Melbourne from USA in mid-August

Thought I'd pass on a success story... Trevor at Garner's came through as promised and set me up with a GS1200 as there Tenere was worn-out. I had a great ride from Melbourne to the west on the Great Ocean Highway, out to Adelaide and then north thru the Clare Valley. I hooked back east out...

Well, the ship is 5 days out of Oakland, California and I'll board on the 27th with stops in Los Angeles, Aukland, NZ then on to Melbourne with an arrival date about August 23rd. I'm looking forward to exploring a small bit of your country and I'd like to thank all of you for your help and...

Visiting Melbourne from USA in mid-August

Thanks for the help so far. Roge - You're saying that riding out to the east from Melbourne is possible along the coast, maybe out thru Eden - Wollongong then cut back along the northern side of the Alps toward Albury - Wangaratta then back to Melbourne snakebitten - Can't find website for...

Visiting Melbourne from USA in mid-August

I'm arriving in Melbourne on a cargo ship in mid August and thinking of renting a bike for a week long ride. I know to stay away from the Alps area but how about the coast over to Adelaide? Then up to Broken Hill and back down to Melbourne that's about 2300Km. I'm not worried about temps as...

suspension lowering kit or new shock

I did the RideOnADV lowering links and measured 7/8" difference in height. (They advertise 1" but things are variable with the preload and weight in the panniers etc.) I'm happy with the set-up and did not have to shorten the side-stand on my 2012. I also raised the front fork tubes in the...

    Need 'slab oriented tire recommendation

I've got 6,000 miles on a set of Bridgestone A-40's and they just starting to show wear. I think 10K out of the rear will be no problem, better still on the front. I'm a bit "weighty" and the bike is usually packed for a long haul but I'm not a real aggressive rider....if that helps. Jim

Any Camping Gaz owners who wish they can still use them? Must read if so!

Thanks for this...I've got both a GAZ stove and small lantern and was kind of pissed when I couldn't get fuel anymore.

Anyone swap coil retaining bolts for Allen heads?

+1 on 2daMax's suggestion. I just finished replacing the plugs and even though I own just about every tool known to man it was a PITA. My ratchet end wrenches are straight and (as 2daMax pointed out) the pivot style would have done the job nicely. I think I'll go out and buy a set.

    Yamaha OEM Heated Grips

Brilliant minds think alike! Less that a year before my O.E.M.'s failed and the Oxfords ADV's have been running strong ever since. $90 well spent. Jim

    Shipping bike to Australia

Thanks for that link, I'll give them a call. It looks like they ship to and from Seattle, WA which is about 900 miles from me but relatively inexpensive airfare to drop off/pick up the bike. Jim

Need advise on upcoming trip to Alaska!

Allow me to offer another view of SPOT. Before my first trip to Prudhoe Bay, I purchased the one that links to your smartphone and allows you to send text messages (even when no cell service exists). I sent my friends and family updates on my progress and it was worth the cost (maybe) just...

    Shipping bike to Australia

Thanks to all that have replied so far....please keep the info coming because it looks like this thing might be doable. I just received an estimate from BikesAbroad in Australia which was very promising. Shipping, custom fees, port charges etc. at $1300 AUD each way. Currency conversion puts...

    Shipping bike to Australia

I'm just entering the planning stages for a trip to Australia and looking into shipping my bike there and back. I know some will offer the "just rent one" option but this trip should be about 40-45 days. A quick check showed a $140/day price for an F800 so I don't think renting is a viable...

Need advise on upcoming trip to Alaska!

https://www.atf.gov/file/61721/download There has been incorrect information posted here regarding shipping the firearm to yourself in another state. This ATF link covers it. (and we've probably hi-jacked the thread...sorry for my part in that) Jim

+1 on Checkswrecks statement ! I just got back from Iceland and be prepared for sticker shock at any restaurant. (Think of the most expensive burger you've ever purchased and then double the $$).
