CCT replacement manual or auto (yamaha)

There have been issues with some later model OEM CCT's. Haven't had any with the several MCCT'S I have fitted to my bikes over the years. I have no affiliation to any parts manufacturers, this is just my experience over the last 15 years and several bikes. Hope it all works out.

CCT replacement manual or auto (yamaha)

Sorry,I should have been clearer. Bike on side stand, clutch cover removed. There should be very little to no oil spillage. It would be a little foolhardy to remove the old tensioner without using something to pre tension the cam chain. By using a socket with the correct outer diameter to...

CCT replacement manual or auto (yamaha)

When I did mine, from memory,I placed a spacer(a socket of the correct o.d.) behind the slider to keep tension on the cam chain before backing the old tensioner out. Removed the oem tensioner, bolted the manual one in place, wound the adjuster in by hand to the point the spacer fell out, backed out...

Yamaha Part Numbers - CCT and Clutch Basket

Sounds like CCT noise to me. Grab a good MCCT,metric socket set, couple of metric spanners and go for gold. Very easy job,and ,honestly,on the 4 bikes (all different makes and models) I've put them in,I had to adjust 2 of them, only the one time. I frequently ride my bike at higher revs,it is...

Yamaha Part Numbers - CCT and Clutch Basket

The speaker in my computer makes your bike sound different to my phone,so I'd struggle to say what your noise is. The CCT noise for me,was always on cold start, only for several seconds and slightly worse if my bike was on the side stand. It kind of sounded like dragging a chain out of a steel...

    Other Kiwis?

Still riding mine, very rarely I might add. If that bike didn't sell, you'll have to get in there bloody quick to get it home. Worth a call to make sure it all went ahead. You've got to feel for the bike shops, times are going to be tough for most everyone but I feel many may fold. I'm the first...

Motorcycle news UK The BMW sponsored paper

Not sure if you were aiming your response at me EricV. I've had my Super Tenere nearly 4 years and have done around 7 oil changes. My point was summed up in your last paragraph though. In order to know how these products perform,we need to gather evidence of many owners, with years and miles of...

Motorcycle news UK The BMW sponsored paper

The problem with bike mags, and all other reviews,is that they are reviewing new products. I actually want to know how that bike/car/tv/washing machine etc etc is going 5/6/7 years down the track. I can't afford to buy a new bike so knowing how things hold up to abuse is way more important,and...

    First ride 2012 S10 impressions

I had an FJR in the shed for about 6 months after I got the '11 S!0. Never rode the FJR once after the S10 arrived. It's both surprising and fulfilling how one of these things can be punted along. About the fuel. You had 7 litres left,so,approximately 135km left in the tank. Can't remember,but...

    Ignition coil

Sorry, yeah o-rings on the coil sticks.

    Ignition coil

I just did the o-ring mod as well. 8 x Viton O-rings = $52.27c nz. Bloke at Shuk's felt sorry for me and charged $43.28c. $5.41 per o-ring,very reasonable. Throw in $45 for a not so large can of di-electric grease. BARGAIN.

    Bad coil?

I've just been through the dropping onto one cylinder experience on a particularly wet ride. Number 3 and 4 coil sticks on my bike showed corrosion half way up the metal sleeves, with, strangely, number 1 and 4 spark plugs showing a lot of corrosion around the hex head on each of them,2 and 3 were...

    Air Box Breather Hose...

I've done this too. It makes plugs far easier to get at,particularly with big hands,a bad back and slightly dodgy knees. The satisfaction of 2 bolts and an electrical connector is pure bliss. Routed the vent hose down to the bashplate with the tank vent hoses. All good so far,and I did plug the...

    Ignition coil

Oil dropped today mate. Cylinder was totally dead for probably 3 or 4 kms tops. Oil came out good, only had 800kms in it. Not thin and no more fuelled smell than normal. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for pointing that out,in my excitement at it's return to form,I completely forgot about the...

    Your favorite under $100 mods.

100nzd. Maybe an oil and filter done at home and a go fast sticker. Mate,we get anally probed down here for any kind of farkles. No bull,4l fully synthetic oil and a filter at a motorcycle shop will swallow a c-note down here,in fact,2 full tanks of fuel, from empty,98 octane, will be $105-$120...

    Ignition coil

Yeah mate,I agree with you about the poor design. Not going to complain yet though. My bike has 85k on it and possibly the original coils. They came out fine,as did the under tightened plugs, and it ran 15kms or so on 1 pot,to get me home. I'm going to try some inox mx7 or di-electric grease when...

    Rear shock knob (UK)

Matt. Brand new plastic knob for 1 euro or aluminium one for 20 odd euro. Get the ally one mate, they work, properly. I'd pay 120nzd for 2 of them, they're that good. Hang on,I did pay 120nzd for 2. I now have a spare part I'll probably never use. Amazing the things you'll buy extras of,just...

    Ignition coil

Mike, how did you get on with the coil stick. I dropped a cylinder on the weekend in a heavy rain ride, and traced it back to electrical. #3 and#4 coil sticks showing corrosion, but new plugs and a clean up and I'm sorted. I've got some second hand coil sticks coming from UK and have ordered 4 new...

Experience of a Bias Front Tire

Thanks for that bit of schooling. I'm assuming I had a dud tyre. I was so excited at the price it took about 3 months before I found it was a bias ply tyre. The 705's on the other hand, are very good, wet or dry, tarmac or metal, both fine and coarse and a little mud too.

Experience of a Bias Front Tire

I'm currently running Shinko 705 radials front and rear,40/42psi. Great tyres and cheap too. When I bought them, the web site said not to use bias tyres on the Tenere due to it's weight/performance characteristics. The Shinko bias tyres were suggested for adventure bikes under 650cc,radial for...
