2014 Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 Best Adventure Bike Now with Luggage! $3500 (Original Owner)

I could also take a Space A flight from NAS North Island to NAS Point Mugu and be almost there.

2014 Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 Best Adventure Bike Now with Luggage! $3500 (Original Owner)

Dang, I have been out of the Tenere game for a while but this is very tempting. I'm assuming by the receipt above that you're up in Ventura County?

    valve clearances schedule?

I did my first valve clearance check a little bit early, a bit over 20,000 miles and had to adjust a couple tight valves. Only reason I did it was to prepare for a long trip where I almost doubled the miles on the bike. At your mileage I wouldn't bother with the check unless you're in a...

Pic at Boot Hill Saloon, Daytona 2025

I saw a couple Super Tenere's at Daytona, was there for the SuperCross race. More than I see regularly anywhere else, but there were thousands of bikes. Hard to stand out from the crowd, but if you're on anything other than a Road Glide/Street Glide you were in the minority. :)

Will anyone in the USA rebuild the ABS control module?

I had to read back through this to see what got me on that tirade, ha! But yeah, I like steaks and beers and am quite used to heckling.

Honda Gold Wing - the return of shaft drive

I've been considering a GoldWing, but probably an early GL1800. That DCT model is pretty nice, Honda got it pretty dialed in.

    Valve Shim Adjustment Questions

Yep, shim over bucket are usually the large ones. Usually pretty easy to change those.

    Valve Shim Adjustment Questions

I wish there were only 7.5 and 9.5 shims, there are lots of different ones. I think I have five or six different sets and recently found out that my buddy's BMW F650 uses some sort of semi spherical shims that I have never seen before. The 7.5, 9.5 and 10.0 are most common on modern machines.

    Valve Shim Adjustment Questions

I have found some shims available in .025 increments, but I don't think they are the ones for these bikes. I wouldn't worry about it, set them to the looser side if you can, but as long as you can get it in spec it's fine.

Harley Pan America Special v. Pan America ST

I think it will be a much better sport touring bike than adventure bike. Has anyone seen a Pan American on any sort of a trail? Heck, I have only seen one anywhere....

Anyone planning to ride to Tuktoyaktuk in 2025 ?

I'd be interested to see what/if any changes have happened up there since my 2018 trip. Tuk didn't have any real infrastructure for travelers then, I set a tent up right next to the Arctic Ocean sign. Mitas E-07 tires were my choice, don't recall exactly what model but I put them on fresh in...

    Whazzat "old" technology

At least it's an external pump. My buddy has a Ford Flex that had a failing water pump and we had to take the entire front of the engine off along with the huge timing chain. What a job! Replaced the chain, tensioners, guides and sprockets.

    It appears to be Official....

I have ridden plenty of old bikes. I don't miss the days of having to clean and adjust points, remove spark plugs to clean or replace them all the time, try to kick over a reluctant to start bike, having two inches of mushy suspension, re-jetting to get the bike to run decent at different...

    It appears to be Official....

Yes, most of the "improvements" are welcomed. Some things I don't care for, but fixing poor driving habits probably helps save some of our lives too. Unfortunately, hoping that people would improve their skills is a pipe dream. People want the easiest solution. Give them the choice and it's...

    It appears to be Official....

I don't buy the "we don't need updated stuff because what worked in the past is fine" mindset. People rode motorcycles with magnetos, kick start, pedals, points, carburetors, flathead engines, total loss oil systems, no suspension, etc before they were updated and improved. Times change...

Barstow to Vegas or sand dunes on Super Tenere

The LA/B/V has a dual sport route and an adventure bike loop. If you want to take a 600 pound bike on this event, I suggest doing the ADV loop unless you like abusing yourself. Majority of the riders on that event are on single cylinder dual sports. If you've never ridden in sand dunes...

Anyone here that’s ridden to the farthest north point in the lower 48 ?

I watched a video on this place, there's not a border guard there but you have to stop at a booth and call in to the Canadian border guards. Interesting place, I grew up in MN and didn't know anything about it.

Any good Tenere mechanics in the SF Bay Area or elsewhere in NorCal/

I'm in San Diego, did two valve adjustments on my Tenere and made a video of the second one showing some ways to make it a bit easier. It's not terribly difficult but some people seem to act like it's the end of the world. Taking your time it would be 4-6 hours. Fly me up there, feed me some...

The King is Dead, Long live the King.

The Yamaha 900cc triple is a real honey of a street engine. It's not going to be close to as fast as the R1, and maybe even the R6 could take it but for everyday riders the R9 is the one to get.

Weapons - What you have (NOT a political discussion)
