I’m pretty well satisfied with the fuel range but I wish the fuel tank was mounted much lower like under the seat so it wouldn’t be so top heavy.

Interesting: everyone talks about the bike being top heavy while I do not feel it at all...I came from a versys 650 and for me it feels exactly like a versys 650 but with a larger and higher sitting position...is it because I have a mid-heavy weight? :)

A minor gripe, but I don’t like the stylish handlebar master cylinder fluid reservoirs, particularly the clutch, which is too small. Bigger transparent ones would have held more fluid, the screw caps seal better, you can see the state of the fluid, and they’d have been cheaper for Yamaha!

A larger reservoir does not make sense. The amount of liquid must coincide with the wear of the brake pads, to give you an idea of when is the right time to change the pads... and not scratch the discs. Being an adventure motorcycle, you have to think about bumps, falls, tree branches hitting you and the handlebars... a large, transparent plastic reservoir would increase the risk of a break. On the S10, the configuration of the brake fluid reservoirs (in material and size), is similar to those on dirt bikes. If you compare the reservoir of a GS 2010 with that of a GS 1250 you will notice how it "EVOLVED"

Sounds like you’re the perfect customer for an ECU re-flash. It (at least the one from Anthony) completely sorts the low speed behavior and running issues. I can actually ride around smoothly in 1st gear, sport mode now.

I have definitely thought about this for several years. Just never did it. One of these days maybe. I keep saying if I run across a known good ECU I will send it off and try that. Just have to get off my lazy butt and find one!

the plastic master cylinder reservoirs I have had didn't hold up well at all. Too much bad weather I guess. the rear plastic ones I guess are shielded from the ice and salt and such. I have not had any issues with them.

I'm in Frankfort but travel all over, not sure where you're at but happy to let you try Anthony's flash if I'm ever in your neck of the woods. PM if there's interest.

range of the s10 is not bad. dunedin to christchurch (350km) is do-able. xt660z did dunedin to culverden (450km). same size fuel tank.

I still ride my 3rd gen Versys 650 on road and track. I can definitely feel the 100+ lb difference between it and the S10. Lol! :D Agree though, that I don't think it's top heavy. I feel Yamaha did a decent job there. It's just HEAVY overall! LMBO! It's the only bike I put gloves on to move around in the garage juuuuust in case ;) By large ADV comparison, the Tiger 1200 definitely felt top heavy to me. Maybe the Multistrada V4 after that.

I thought similar until I called 2 Wheel Dynoworks and they assured me that the ECU could be restored to factory settings when or if I wanted it. That was a great service feature to me.

Probably the hardest element on exposed plastic bits, especially if they’re transparent or translucent, is UV sunlight. It might even have a deleterious effect on the fluid inside if it’s not changed regularly. I’m glad Yamaha chose aluminum for the exposed handlebar reservoirs.

Just read the link that You posted for 2 Wheel Dynoworks. For the stock exhaust, it says EXUP valve disabled? That is the first reference that I have seen or heard saying that the S10 has an EXUP valve. I thought that the the S10 never had an EXUP valve?

  • Wind management. Get lots of buffeting. (Tried 3 windscreens and 2 helmets).
  • Sidestand foot is too close to foot peg. Heel pushes it down and catches on it when standing.
  • Add ABS off switch.
  • Constant beckoning. It is always calling to me from the garage, even when I am trying to sleep.

I'm not absolutely convinced that fluid reservoirs need to be ultra robust on the handlebars when the plastic rear brake one is under the back mudguard! Modern plastic fluid reservoirs are OK in sunlight for many years and they're cheap and easy to replace. I still think that Kawasaki have done it right with the Versys 1000 - beautifully light cable operated clutch and a proper brake reservoir.

To me it looks like the tree came down as the rider was riding and not so much riding into it.
I have actually heard of this happening on 2 occasions where a tree came down onto a car while driving.
Kinda like when a deer or in my area a moose jumps out in front of you while riding, it's not good.
