Good luck! My left knee was troublesome for 30+ yrs. Yes, I had to mount and dismount on the peg as well. I really torqued it in 2021 and finally got a replacement last year. Couldn't have gone smoother and was feeling good about riding this year....till another unrelated health issue cropped up. FWIW I was off the bike for 6-7 weeks after surgery. After that, no real problems. And the fact that there was now no arthritis pain cropping up when I rode was great.
Thanks, yeah the arthritis is kinda ruing my comfort. I can’t keep my foot on the left peg with my knee bent very long. Had to fit highway pegs to make any distance riding bearable. 6-7 weeks off the bike is kind of what I’m expecting too. I’ve got a rally I want to attend first week of September as my goal.

Not necessarily. If a person really wants a Beemer, they're not gonna be happy with a lowly Tenere.
I know, I know ;) The humor in it is that they're exact same bikes! No change from 14' to 22'. Ha ha! :p Save for the bold new graphics! Lol! The S10 could definitely use juuuuust a little freshening up. All levity aside though, the BMW GS is a stellar performer! Life is short; I say ride what brings you joy :)

Same here. 6 weeks post surgery I went for a ride when it was in the high 50's here. In jeans. Usually this would cause arty pain within 5 minutes. I rode for an hour before I realized there was no pain. or stiffness. I too planned a rally in Sept. but don't know if I can make it. My current recovery is slooooowwww. Best, of luck with the TKR, they do amazing things these days!

. . . . No change from 14' to 22'. Ha ha! :p . . . .
It's been rumored that Yamaha microscopically changed the fueling in '17 without telling anybody. People that have ridden pre/post '17 claimed they felt a slight difference. Who knows. I couldn't ever trust a Beemer again. My friend with gorgeous '18 1200 Tiger went to sell it the other day. The new buyer shows up, and the bike won't start. $700 part. Not his first major issue either. Just sayin'.
YAMAHA RULES!!

You should really try a 2022 model. I bet you'd like it more than the 2014 one! :D:p
There is no difference between the 2014 and 2022, except for color and very minor engine tweaks. I didn't like anything, the suspension, engine mapping, seat, handling, etc. Only put 2600 miles in 4 years of ownership. I bought my GS in 2019 new and after 3 years have over 15,000 miles!

Yamaha's are a working class type of M/C and more simplistic than say the Bring My Wallet brand. Being a simple man I struggle a bit reading the Ten's wiring diagram! I don't know that I could live with the Can-Buss design of the BMW.
A friend on another Forum has money and rides a BMW (his 2nd), he's a former Yamaha dealer suggests that you buy the extended warranty. JSNS

It's kinda the countries represent the bikes. US=HD. Germany=BMW. Japan=Big 4. It's a mindset kinda thing.

When I sold my GS it had 117,000 wonderful miles on it, seriously. On the first year rode it from Vancouver Canada to Panama and it made me visit some of the wonderful BMW dealers on the way to say "hi". I would be stretching the truth if I told you "trouble free" hahaha.
The hard part to take is how Motorad (BMW) rape your wallet and what that can do to your trip.

So now I ride the fat girl since 2019 and have yet to visit the dealer.....oh wait, waterpump under warranty in the first 3months of the purchase, I'm bad.

I know, I know. Heh heh.
Twas just joking because there's really no difference :p It's kinda comical to me. There's no denying though, that Yamaha's getting some serious generational service life from this 2nd gen S10! We're talking B-52 bomber bang for the buck! LOL!! Really glad you're enjoying the GS life. It is an amazing machine! I've ridden the 1200 GS and the 1250 GSA. Best all arounder ADV (imho). Strong, fun engine and superbly nimble overall. Wishing you many more smiles and miles with yours :)

Always makes me smile, with you though. Have you ever been to the zoo and prodded the monkeys through the bars?;)

So after saying that on my last post it is obvious that I really do like the GS, why would I ride it for so long and not like it.
I stepped away from the GS simply because of the $$$. Are they better for the coin, simply NO and it is more of personal preference and dispensable income and I would even venture to say "status symbol". Been there, rubbed shoulders with many and its a given, GS riders noses point up more.

Here the thing, I dearly enjoyed riding the GS, the boxer motor gives this bike a very low center of gravity in comparison, giving it super easy handling but it's a wide load of a bike also.
The power is beautiful but so is the S10 in a different manor. Over the 117K miles, I had couple water pump failures, valve cover oil leaks, ign coil failure, wheel bearing failure, rear final drive leaks, which ended up having a full replacement of the final drive. Numerous electrical problems with switches, water proofing of their switches is poor from the get go. Rear shock failure.
Run ability issues when the temps dropped near 5deg C. It would stall for the first 20min or so of running, never resolved.

As for the general ride, honestly, slightly but not much better then the S10, but at around 70-75,000miles the rear shock fail completely and where the REAL improvement came from was with the replacement Olins we put on. Did both ends and WOW, it was like a different bike and since I have never rode a bike that actually handled and rode better. That had nothing to do with BMW and I would put Olins on my S10 if needed and I bet experiencing the same improvements.

Yes the GS are awesome and if it wasn't the cost of ownership as an ADV rider I would still be riding one, are they the ultimate, best ADV bikes....LOL. I guess they are if it stays on the tarmac, crunch it through the rigors of dirt, broken roads and water crossing. Add a few drops in there and then come back and tell us how that works out for ya.

In the mean time my wallet is happy with lowly fat girl and I have come to really enjoy our ventures, just as much as I did on my GS.

And another version of, let’s attack the GS.

Quite odd really how a thread on what people don’t like about their Super Tenere, has turned into some obsessing over BMW again.
I don't agree with your statement, simply because my post has nothing to do with the GS, please read it again, the GS is a great bike, 117K miles speaks for it self. This has to do with BMW as a whole.
We will find out how well the S10 holds out in comparison, time will tell if it hit 100,000miles and what fails, but one thing for sure so far, the cost of ownership is making me smile more.

I don’t need to read your post again. You appear to have assumed, incorrectly, that I am referring to your post. I actually thought your posts #72&75 were balanced views.

Not true at all. There had been several mentions of other brands, and what the other brands had compared to the Tenere. But . . . . then . . . . Mr. Goldwing, post #42 below . . . . came in . . . . and that was that.

I didn't like anything with my 2014, sold it for a 2019 R1250GS and have not looked back. I think the GS is the best ADV bike out there.
Ya' can't pull the pin on that grenade and not expect some return fire.
