I have this problem. S10 2012, 40,000 miles. Last service the guy changed all the fluids, since then I've had a problem with the rear brake, had it bled again (twice) no brake unless you pump it. But if I grab the front brake when moving the rear pedal stiffens and if I apply a bit of pressure on the pedal I can release the front and still use the back brake until I release the pedal, then back to normal no brake!

In this case it sounds like the tech, all techs are not equal, let air into the system while changing out the fluid. My tech says that is POSSIBLE to get the air out of the system without cycling the ABS pump(s), but it will take A LOT of fluid and time. Definitely let you dealer service manager know about the problem. They either need to retrain or remove that tech.

OK, here are some pictures to aid in getting the ABS pump in cycling mode.

Tools Needed. Mini screw driver is for removing the waterproof rubber bung in the connector. Wire with both ends stripped.

Jumpering the connector. Blue to Black wires. This is how it looks like.

My theory of continuing to bleed, cycle the abs pump, bleed, cycle the abs pump, until all air is removed has proven to be successful. My friend's S10 is now 100% restored for the rear brakes and ABS. ::012::

Hi all, so the rear brakes are giving issues. On inspection the below photos show the area from where the fluid is coming out. Brake fluid tank is empty. Any advice? I've checked the pipes and the connection around this area and there appears to be no cracks, lose connections, or rattling parts....20211020_195924.jpg20211020_195934.jpg

Looks like it's leaking from the connection. I'd start by cleaning, disconnect, clean some more, replace the washers, and reinstall.

I cleaned everything off and then started pumping the brake pedal again and the oil started coming out from this connection here as Sierra1 mentioned. Not sure what line this is (brake fluid?) but are washers available for this part? Can't see with certainty what 3xactly is broken here....

Copper washer seems out of shape or pinched. This is a caliper rebuild kit from ebay....seems legit...I'll phone my local dealer tomorrow and ask if they can rebuild and not replace....Screenshot_20211020-220420_Samsung Internet.jpg

I would think that a rebuild is needed. Just the washers. I mean, it's just the connection. There's only a few things that can cause the leak. Make sure it's tight enough. (without going too tight)

'Cuz, I've never seen a leak start at a connection that hadn't been pulled apart. The first two pics almost looked like the lower washer was missing too.

Strange. Mine started leaking in the same place at about 10k miles. It had never been taken off. A Harley rider was proud to point it out for me.

Took it to the local Yamaha dealer and they fixed it for the amazing price of US$30 with labour. Actually the bike went in for its 40k km service and a grand total of US$250. Everything from front to back was checked, lubed, fluids changed, filters swopped out, brake fluids, and this problem I had with the connection on the rear brake.

How does US$250 compare to other parts of the world? For a 40k km service.

Sounds exceptional to me. Was that with a valve check? I was quoted $517 and $564 2 years ago for a valve check. I'm way overdue. The dealers here are so backed up. If they can get to you in a month you are lucky. It's atvs and side x sides here.

Full works on the 40000 service. It's an amazing feeling having the bike back and everything's tighter and firmer. :D
