A little wet this morning. Hopefully the front doesn’t follow us. There is no cell service in Cooke City. I can’t remember the last time I seen a pay phone. Weak WiFi at the motel. The rain makes everything smell wonderful. 608 miles yesterday. Still deciding on our route today.8602FF8C-68C2-4037-AF5C-31476062AD4F.jpeg8CF3D0E4-750C-4FFB-A853-863D5D602EA2.jpegCEE11E29-DDF6-40FA-8690-6BCB8C06193F.jpeg

These photos are confusing me. Please identify them.
Surely you recognize the top photo as Mount Rushmore National Memorial near Keystone South Dakota. The other 2 are from the Crazy Horse Memorial near Crazy Horse SD. The Crazy Horse Memorial has been under construction for almost 70 years. The history of the construction of both makes for some very interesting reading. Or better yet go there and take the tours. The Crazy Horse Memorial is kind of a tourist trap, but still interesting.

Those were my initial thoughts. But, I thought that Crazy Horse was further along. And, then it started looking like George from his right, but that should be impossible, so. . . .

There is an outstanding documentary of Mt Rushmore I watched on PBS. So interesting and much history I had no idea of. Gave me more respect and appreciation for the monument.

I don't know if I watched the same one. I was surprised to see that the current design, is not the original design. . . . all because of the rock.

There is a small movie theater there with a documentary about the construction. The show runs over and over as part of a self guided tour. They also have an evening lighting ceremony (in season) where the monument is lit up. They invited all military veterans to come up on stage to participate. We have gone there several times, usually in September. The crowds are gone and the weather is cooler. We also went to the buffalo round up at nearby Custer State Park...good time.

We had a little ‘action’ today. About 50 miles out in the boonies and my buddy get a star shaped puncture. Not so easy fix. Tire kept coming off the bead. New tire in the works for tomorrow morning.
I road back about ten miles and found some UTV guys with some extra equipment. Super great guys. I think it took 10 silly strings to get back to the camp site. When I took the picture of all the guys standing around, it started to rain. About five minutes later it was a monsoon ! We are many miles off road and it quickly became a muddy gully washer. After we popped out of this muddy mess we then had another 20-30 miles on gravel roads (in the pouring down rain). It was so fun and bad ass. No one took a mud nap !
Always a good time ! LOL

About 350 miles. Deadwood, Lead, Spearfish canyon, Devil's Tower (hiked around it), linked up with another group back in Lead, then did Nemo road, Hill City to Keystone, and Iron Mountain Rd back through Custer SP and a real live Bufffalo stampede (Steve barely survived!). Busy day
