I recently experienced a Jeep with an iPad on the dash. They used it for GPS, roads, info, Off-Road trails, and any other info you might want to use it for. ( I guess all the normal stuff ) The off-road maping was awesome. Showing you the trail head, where you are located, points of interest, Etc. VERY COOL- very clear and lots of data. The screen was flawless along with the "normal" functions of an iPad. The whole iPad experience was awesome and worked flawless out in the sticks........ Im not a 'tech' type person. The use of this for this 'off road' function was astounding.

So- question. Has anyone installed an iPad mini on their bike ? Not necessarily how to "bolt it on"... but software, or any hang up's you might have run into... Ive never owned a GPS, I just look at a paper map and memorize the route or other places I want to go.. I can kinda "rain man" paper maps. But this recent iPad Off-Road experience has got me thinking...

I know the small iPad is still big.. maybe nothing comes from this conversation 'for me'. But someone else might want / need the info. Anyhow, I was so impressed that I wanted to learn a bit more and ask a few questions..

Thank you

I think in that case, (you liked the applications or the ipad menus) ... an iPhone would be much more useful ... it is more evolved than an ipad, and when you get to a place, you simply put it in your pocket. I have both (iphone and ipad) and honestly, I stopped using the ipad a long time ago .... Remember that phone cameras don't like extreme vibrations (they damage the camera)
maybe, the combination of your cell phone with an "eye lights" ... you like more

For sure on the iPhone camera. I’ve had to replace my camera several times already.

I have used Android rugged phones for gps for years. Lots of great free apps. You also don't "need" service to use them as a gps. If you have wifi you can download when you are connected. I recently put an 8" Android tablet on the bike. So far, so good. You have to come up with a work around if your gloves won't work the touchscreen. There's a load of info over on AdvRider.20201231_135529.jpg20201231_140107.jpg

I have the big version of a Google Pixel phone that stays on the bike just for GPS as it has no SIM chip in it. Mostly use it with Osmand+.

my problem is mounting them.......

I have an Android S8 active and the RAM mount barely holds it due to the case. If I did go bigger how in the he** do people mount these things?

What mount are you using?
Ram Quick Grip works for most phones. You can modify the spring to hold a longer unit or get this Ram Quick Grip XL
I use one like THIS for my 8" LG tablet. Tablet from FB Marketplace, case and holder from eBay was less than $75 total!

Make sure you use the rubber band keeper if you go off smooth pavement with the X-Grip. They have a habit of spitting the phone out on rough roads. DAMHIK...
And who is JAXON?
I had the same bad experience with a X-grip.
Was NOT happy!
