Replacing clutch lever

What makes no sense to me is that even with the original lever, I still can’t get the clutch to disengage. I KNOW I’m putting in the push rod correctly into the brass bushing, because I can see it rotating when I squeeze the lever, so it has to be in the bushing slot.

Moreover, even when I take the lever off and use my finger to push the push rod, I still can’t disengage the clutch. Very odd. This is all up on the center stand.

Maybe having it up on the center stand wasn’t the best way to test it. I put the original lever back on, kicked the bike into gear and rode around, squeezed the lever while it was still in first gear and brought it to a stop. And the engine didn’t die. Maybe the clutch is partially engaged all of the time?

I can’t help you with that, I also had it centerstanded. When I put the OEM back it immediately worked again. When I had the crap one mounted and at the nr4 position the bike wouldn’t disengage properly. At the nr1 position no disengagement at all.

Even when disengaged there is a lot of drag.

Hope you’ll pardon my naïveté, but in layman’s terms, are you saying that even if you have your bike on center stand, engine running in 1st gear with wheel spinning in the air, if you squeeze the clutch lever, the wheel will continue spinning? And will there also be drag with engine off, bike in 1st gear, and clutch lever squeezed, you attempt to move the bike?

Quite a bit. If I'm gonna be pushing her around, I definitely put her in neutral. Big difference.

Yes that is correct. The wheel will still spin even with clutch pulled in. Best bet to test is to sit on the bike and put it in gear normally to see if it stalls. BTW, how have you been? I still remember our ride up to Crystal Lake.

Hey Chris - I’ve been ok. Dealing with some musculoskeletal issues that seem to run in my family’s DNA, but I’m (hopefully) on the other side of it! Moved a little further south in the OC, so that was the event of the late summer and early 2021. My wife and I have the new house mostly dialed in. I’d love for you to pay a visit the next time we go riding, probably more South this time so we don’t have to deal with that rotten LA traffic. Hope all is well with you!

(And btw, I took a short test ride and it didn’t stall, so I guess I’m good!)

Cool deal!! You got it going. I'm dealing with ortho issues right now and will be out of the saddle for the next 6 months to year or so. I'll be back after I'm fixed up.
