When you guys are talking about your problems in your countries. I listen and have an opinion. I don't chime in because it's really none of my business. I don't vote there.
I agree to a certain extent, but there are two sides to the argument. There used to be a wall in Berlin and Apartheid in South Africa, but due to public and governmental pressure those are now history.

There are personal local issues and the wider worldwide collective issues.

The count is running 2:1 to close it so will let folks vote for a few more days.
I'm curious on what is the total membership and what percentage participate in posting at least once a week.

This poll is showing a low turnout which indicates that only a few members are interested in participating in a political rant forum. I can see why some want to return to discussing bikes and beer instead of being FORCED to read these posts. But I do not understand why so many believe that the Media, which includes written word and television, has been lying to the public. Yet no proof or reason has been established.
If you want to reunite these United States of America we have to talk to another, and not just about bikes and beer.

I found the paperwork where my grandfather sponsored the immigration of a family from Austria in the 30’s. It was not a free for all to immigrate here. As a sponsor he was ultimately responsible for that family and their welfare. Very interesting paperwork indeed.

That qualified sponsor (tax returns, bank and income statements) is still required today just as it was then. But today just like then it is never enforced if the immigrant falls on hard times and becomes a public charge.

Oh, what a beautiful video glorifying caravans of illegal aliens breaking into our country all while mocking attempts to defend our sovereign country from illegal entry. So do you leave your homes, doors, windows, cars open or leave your personnel possessions out in the open allowing anyone to move in or take anything they feel entitled to? Ya, I didn't fucking think so!

You know we sent young American soldiers over seas to die defending your country from a German invasion. We experienced over 400,000 dead and nearly 700,000 badly wounded during WW2. Hell I even spent 2 years at RAF Lakenheath in the early 80s to help keep you safe. The fucking very least you could do is not ridicule us for attempting to defend our country's borders from foreign invaders.

Funny, at one point I wanted to go to out to the Black Hills this Summer...

I always find it interesting when people in the US think we went to war to defend the UK, because we actually left them hanging to dry till forced into the fight and then got in for our own preservation.

Germany tried to not attack anything from the US and knew better than to even attack our shipping to the UK. That all ended when Roosevelt declared that the US was at war with Japan because that was when Germany honored their agreement with Japan and Hitler unilaterally declared war on the US. We didn't have a choice at that point. A lot of US ships and German U-boats were suddenly sunk within sight of the US east coast where we go to the beach and they were landing spies here. While yes, we probably did save the Brits*, the US at that point was fighting out of the UK largely because it was the only land left to fight from on that side of the ocean.

(* There's also the argument that the UK got to a point they were holding their own and because the Russians were beating the Germans back, the Germans would've run out of resources regardless of what the US did. After all, the Russians took control of Romania and other German oil fields. The Russians got their asses kicked for almost 2 years straight before turning things around and they had the Germans in full retreat long before D-Day.)

WW2 was different from the Cold War with the Soviet Union when you were in the UK and I lived in Germany and that wasn't all out of the goodness of our hearts either. The US was part of NATO and spending to protect Europe because we had a vested interest in trying to keep a possible nuclear war as far as possible from US soil. There's a discussion of this in the Ronald Reagan biography.

But you are welcome too. Of course our problems rarely get on the world stage as US issues do. Big country, big population, many outspoken celebrities, and a lot of world influence. We all feel a little bit of ownership of the USA. When the big dog barks we all hear it. Feel free to scroll on if you don't like foreign views, or you can continue to participate in this friendly banter. Cheers

I never visit the Guns thread. I’m not interested in guns but I am interested in the reasons for gun ownership. But I wasn’t allowed to ask questions there so now I ignore it

I was stationed at RAF Greenham Common for awhile in the 1980's defending the Yanks who were helping us Brits' defend Europe from 'external aggressors' and the painted welly brigade (Mainly the women peace protesters, CND) who didn't like Cruise Missiles....
I think some wag at the time said that the UK was classed as a US Aircraft Carrier... Probably an Aussie...;):)

Back to my tea & biscuits.

I lived just outside the perimeter of Greenham. I remember when we found out the yanks were coming, people said “it’ll be great for the local economy “. It had no effect at all. They had their own car dealerships, shops, everything. They even flew in milk every day! The only thing they did was put those huge Humvees onto our tiny country roads and cause congestion. And of course add my village to the Russian first strike target list...
