Hmmm.... that’s not what you want from a new and very expensive bike! For me, I don’t want a TFT screen, (although that may be a problem if I change bikes in the future), the stock dash panel on my S10 gives me all the information that I need. :)

This was said to be water ingress, but remember the bike was whipped away by KTM UK for a fix; I don't think they used the local dealer.

There is plenty of clever & attractive tech around, on bikes & in cars with complex TFT dash displays, but one does wonder how it will stand the test of time.

I have been following that on MCN. I love that bike. Although for me i think the pegs are too far back.

I keep looking at the 1290 Adventure but the apparent poor reliability record and lack of dealers in the UK and Europe puts me off.

I also own a BMW GSA and while it might be no more reliable (although it has been totally reliable so far) than the KTM the UK/European back up is second to none

6 months and about 6,500 miles and my SAS has been flawless. Not long enough to know anything about reliability, but I sure hope it stays flawless. I've heard the stories and they definitely rattle around in the back of my mind, but I'm holding out for KTM to be telling the truth that problems are rare. Time will tell.

A couple of local guys here have had nothing but problems with those TFT screens blacking out for no reason.

KTM's attract some funny people. Some will swear up and down that they are just as reliable as Japanese bikes, others are a bit more honest with their experience.

I owned an '06 KTM 625 SMC, yes far from a current model, but I'm sure some of the same engineers are still there. Those geniuses drilled the threads for one header bolt a touch too far, into the open area of the cylinder head. Guess where it was leaking oil from? Well that, and a billion other spots. Wasn't just mine, I believe it was the whole model run.

When I was shopping around for what ended up being the S10, I very seriously considered the big KTM's. The various reliability issues reported very quickly steered me away. Things like fuel pumps getting clogged requiring replacements and an aftermarket filter solution, fuel boiling, and some other things.

Stupid of me, but I wouldn't mind owning another KTM bike as a fun toy, don't expect much reliability though.

Isn't that what that guy that kept dropping his bike was riding. His screen went black a time or two. Can't remember which model.
Not sure. I'll admit, I'm hoping the 790 is using a new "improved" TFT and not my older model. I've not seen reports of the SAS TFT failing.

Sometimes the latest bling comes with a price. I admit. when I first saw the TFT screens on the 1190 I was amazed and thought it was extremely cool. But in reality, did I need that kind of screen to relay the pertinent data I'd use when riding? Not really. It's jewelry for guys, in a way. I kinda liked the fact that the T7 did not have tons of electronic intervention. As a technician I always appreciated systems that had fewer things to fail.
I still get caught with the jewelry bug though.

When I bought my BMW 1200GSA in 2018 (now traded for a 1250....long story) the TFT screen was still an expensive optional extra which (in my opinion only replicates the information available on the BMW Sat Nav V)

The only reason I added the TFT was I thought that if I had the old analogue clocks it would really adversely effect the desirability and resale value further down the line. I got a really good (we all think that!) deal when I traded for the 1250

Now I really like the BMW TFT but I use very few of the available features as I use my Sat Nav for navigation, music, telephone calls etc. Visually it's far superior to my S10's Gen 2 LCD display but the Yam gives me all the information I need when riding

The display picture is different, but the hardware looks uncomfortably like the SAS TFT.

There's no doubt when the 2 year warranty gets close to being done I'll be getting an extended warranty just in case.

Probably Chinese plastics. Corrosion, EWS errors, etc may be next...happens on all Husky TR650s and Nudas that I know of.

I caught mine early enough, took it apart, resealed it and fabricated a perspex rain cover - just in case. Also, someone ingenious found out the scrolling buttons can be replaced with the inside rubber plunger from a syringe (perfect fit)
