They're know as "gremlin bells". They're supposed to keep the road gremlins away from your bike. Normally, it's one bell to one bike. But, this is Texas, and he is close to Austin.

A Gremlin Bell is to be mounted to the lowest part of the bike. Those will never work!
Here's mine. It's hard to see, but it has the St Michael embossed on it. I was told that gremlin bells had to be gifted to you, or they didn't work. This one was transferred from the ST 1300 to the Tenere by the same guys that had originally gifted it to me. PineLaneRider is right, they're supposed to be the lowest thing on the bike, but mine doesn't quite hang below the skid plate; it wouldn't survive if it did. Hey, maybe the bell works so good. . . . that I don't need a flash.

The headlights suck on mine. Even with better bubsRe-seated both headlight bulbs that I put in last week so the tabs are now actually in the proper 7 o'clock position. Makes a difference...
It's very likely they're aimed too high/low. That's why I hate projection beam headlights. They are w-a-a-a-a-y to sensitive to angles; unlike reflector beam headlights.

This is the one mom bought me two bikes ago, it changes bikes with me. As you can see, if it's low enough, you'll grind off bits of it when you lean hard, lol. So this one went just above my skid plate.

Gremlins like to shelter in small dark spaces... like bells, the ringing drives them to fall out. If you've mounted the bell low enough they fall on the road, not back onto the bike. That's how potholes get started.

Hell, I pop wheelies past those sneaky gremlins, smoke those dudes off the trail... I have a loud muffler and ride this sucker like a 450, those darn gremlins stay out of the way..LOL
