MCN has said Yamaha has officially dropped the S10 from its 2021 line up, along with the FJR1300, that’s here in the UK and I assume in the rest of Europe, not Sure worldwide.

As someone who is still looking for a Gen 2 Tenere not sure how this would affect the Secondhand market?!

They seem to have dropped the non ES version, as it isn't on Yamaha USA's list of 2021 models, but the ES is there for 2021.

I don’t think Yamaha offered a non-ES version in 2020 either, at least in the US.

Makes sense. With the opinion that the Tenere is "old", and such. . . . .manually adjusting your suspension is behind the times. Even I went with the ES. If a person is seriously looking at what the "top shelf" bikes are offering. . . . manual suspension is likely not on their list.

I'm sorry, but I have always thought that had to be the ugliest, and dumbest idea for a motorcycle. And, then they went and put a turbo on it. . . . and then made it a Silver Wing. Of all the bikes that Honda could have used . . . . I guess they were trying to emulate Moto Guzi. I never understood have the horizontal V. Looked like there would be excessive heat. And, I didn't see what advantages that set-up could have provided. I have never ridden one so this is all speculation on my part.

So true, the differences between a Gen 1 and Gen 2 are many but the power difference was the biggest. I rode a couple new ones that were modded and they were a handful under hard acceleration! Getting back on my old bike and it felt small and slow, and it's not exactly stock! I'd like to get a Gen 2 but the 3 I have are enough, unless I find steal of a deal on a T700.

My friend had one which I got to ride quite often, I remember disliking the CX500 but after riding it I was hugely impressed! It certainly was a much nicer bike to ride than the BMW R75/6 I owned at the time. It was smoother, much more refined and certainly no excess heat. A very under rated bike indeed.

I had a CX500, one of the best bikes I have ever owned for comfort and reliability. Back when I owned it, it was generally mocked. I still remember camping in the snow at a bike rally around 1984 and my bike, my mate's CX500 Eurosport and another mate's Silverwing all started straight off the button for the journey home. Some of the main mockers were:

Ducati 900 thing- Being leant against a fence as the owner jumped up and down on the kick start.
Suzuki GS750- resorted to kick starting after battery flattened on electric start, but with more dignity than the Ducati owner.
Kawasaki Z400 being run up and down the cleared part of the road trying to bump start it. The only one of us that was warm though.

the Basic (what we here call non ES

and the Rally Raid model.

Yamaha has also dropped the WR250R and the R6 from it's lineup for 2021, along with the VMAX and SMAX. That's some pretty substantial early spring cleaning.

I sometimes think how could the "next" XTZ 1200 be even better... If that was really possible.... Everyone has their own opinion. LOL. I like this one..

I think the only way to bring it back to the forefront (in the industry) would be a KTM 1290 "clone". What if it looked like a T700, and under the skin was a KTM "clone" 1290. That would be the "next step".....

I can see it now, and everyone complaining about EVERYTHING... LOL Along with the new 18999 price tag. LOL.

I still love the Ol' girl and there are still a TON of happy Yamaha customers out there..... :)

Yamaha 2021 UK models

Taken from the MCN web page:-

Another bike being dropped from Yamaha’s line-up for 2021 is the FJR1300, which has been a part of their fleet since 2001 and sold over 120,000 units. If you want one, it’s available as a black and goldUltimate Editionwhile stocks last. Also going is the XT1200Z Super Ténéré, which is being retired after 10 years.

I wonder if this means both S10 models or just the Z with no electronic suspension. I suspect both as it's probably linked to Euro 5 emission laws

IF, it is just the non-ES, that would track with what's going on over here. BUT, you're correct that if it is the Euro 5 issue that's causing the discontinue, they will both be on the chopping block.

I suppose this means my bike will soon become an appreciating classic? Back in 1990 if you said a Honda CX500 would become sought after people would have called you crazy. Now look at the value of those. A plastic maggot no longer.
Still my favourite bike. I was a motorcycle courier in Sydney for a few months and it was perfect.
