everybody take a breath through cotton filtered mask of the government mandate that they say really doesn't work but you should or must wear one but should make you calm down. and calm down . if you get this and die its bad . if you get this and live its good. as of today most will not get this and that's good . all this could change for the better or the worse . how much of this is fake news how much is real honest news , our American news media is no better than the "national enquirer " probably worse . take precautions use your brains and the odds are with you not getting this (yet) today. yesterdays announced numbers were over a million (7 plus billion population) infected ,83k deaths , 200k recovered . world wide 83k out of a million is a fairly low death rate (unless you died from it then it was a 100 % death rate in your case ) in the US 200k plus infected and (12k plus deaths ) the majority out of NYC . 330 million Americans most do not have it , but a large number have a growing despair and poverty from this , that is the truth and the real impact of what's been done to free nations everywhere . and that impact will be more profound than this virus on our lives in the long term.

"Kindly try not to cloud the issue with facts." It's funny how whenever someone debunks a conspiracy theory or points out a shortcoming in the data presented, they are accused of anger. "But I just asked a question!" So, when did you stop hitting your wife? It's snark, folks. Snark is not necessarily anger. Boris "I keep shaking hands" Johnson is in the ICU. It's just like the flu, right?

I want to go on a ride, but I stay at home instead and become increasingly snarky. I had viral pneumonia in my teens and it was not funny. I'm approaching 50 and want to avoid doing The Boris. We all have our ways of dealing with this, and denial is one of them. Can we agree that we're all scared and want this shit to go away?

So, here's my version of steam-letting. Snark away, maybe we can all get a chuckle out of it. ;)

The new flu season will kill another 60 k American as it does every year
No question you are right. It takes close to a year to develop a vaccine and I personally know people already working on multiple vaccines for the most likely flu strains which will blossom next winter. When we get closer, multiple anti-viruses will have been developed and somebody will make decisions about which to put into mass production. Usually they get it right but some years they have goofed and picked a strain which didn't become the prevalent one once flu season hit. Those are the years when you hear stuff like "It's been a bad flu season."

The difference is that COVID19 is an additional tens of thousands will die after months of wasted time from the early warnings, plus cuts to staffs and funding.

As far as funding, I retired from a Govt agency whose entire budget was about 1/2-2/3 of a single fighter airplane. I'm sure the budget cost for the infectious disease staff who got cut was on the order of a bomb.

Unfortunately, you're probably right. Unless an "important/influential" person, or one of their friends, happens to die from COVID-19. I've always had mixed feelings when I hear about a celebrity, or a celebrity's child, that has a certain condition/illness/ailment. Suddenly the celebrity throws their influence, and money into finding a cure for it. On one hand, it's good that they use their influence & money to help researchers. On the other hand, many times, us "regular folk" have been suffering for years without any recourse. Way of the world I guess. Even if they do find a vaccine for COVID-19 "quickly", will it have a bunch of negative side effects? I was shocked to hear some of the Tamiflu side effects. Possible death. Sometimes "the cure is worse than the disease".

Even more unfortunate is that sometimes the celebrity is irresponsible, does not check his/her facts or actually rejects the science (willful ignorance) based on no expertise of their own and sows lethally incorrect information. Take the anti-vaccination celebrities for instance. Because of their influence, fans actually. incredibly and sometimes tragically, believe them!

Life goes on or it doesn't. I have a two week old grand-daughter that I haven't been able to see yet (in person). I also have a 17 year old grand-daughter who's birthday was yesterday, we took a present to their house and handed it off at the door. She broke the rules and hugged my wife (who was also breaking the rules!) :) Strange times.

One would think that after having lived 6 and a half decades there would not be any surprises left. Wrong.

This is something that I've not experienced before, just like everyone else. But what I have encountered recently was a 2 year family induced stressor. In fact the Dr.s tell me my current health issues are a result of that stress (it nearly killed me, which as I think about it would have spared me from all this current fooferall).

Soooo....I have made a conscious effort since that stressful time to as Madhatter says, take a breath and calm down. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I say we lose the name calling and anger and go for a ride, or at least look at pictures of past rides and daydream.

. . . . What if you were shopping for toilet paper and got king hit by someone who wanted it more than you. Would that be a covid 19 death?
I saw a post today (on another site) that claimed that if a person passes, and they find anti-bodies in the blood, it will be logged as a COVID-19 death. If true, that could really skew the numbers.

Glad I was able to meet you and Mak10 on my last great social ride! We will ride again! Maybe we will appreciate it even more.

Shame. I read it completely 'tongue in cheek'.
Regards,
What was posted was drawing complaints from people who do support Trump and felt they were being trolled. They support him and I appreciate that they didn't blow it up into a flame war to clean up. That said, what OX-34 posted SO much sounded like something The Donald would say that I spent probably 10+ minutes Googling to find a link.

In the end, it was too much of a troll. And while most have not just an opinion about Trump, but a strong opinion from one side or the other (me included), this is a place most of us come to escape the daily political crap. Feel free to head to The Guardian on the left or Hannity on the right for that.

OX-34 -
Appreciate the sincerity and yes it did sound enough like some of what Trump has rambled that I fell for it and Googled. Obviously just Trump's name get people worked up on both sides of the aisle.

2talltoo -
OX-34 is one of us original members. Even if he sold his, he'd be just another of a fairly large group who joined the family and stuck around.

I'm with CW in this matter. I'm not a blindly following Red or Blue person . I've always supported who I think is the best candidate. . . . Red or Blue. But, I don't feel that this forum should be political. We're here 'cuz we like bikes, the Tenere in particular. (I even feel guilty sometimes about talking s**t about BMW, but my comments are based person experience, not hearsay) Also, since this is an international forum. . . . with more than one type of government. . . . political views are probably one of the only topics that shouldn't be shared/discussed. (religion(s) being another) When it came to OX-34's post, I thought he may have been hacked. It didn't make sense to me, and reminded me of some of those spam members that have snuck in. But, Madhatter has the right post. . . . "ride baby ride". 'Cuz, I'm digging eemsreno's pictures he's been sharing.
