A friend of mine has just noticed a pipe which appears to have come off something. Can anyone help identify what it is

Looking at the radiator side of the bike, near the back of the petrol tank (petrol over-flow pipe?)

Bike is an 18 model with ESA

Many thanks

There are 2 hoses that go from the tank down to the front left side of the engine. There is are 2 small brackets the hose runs through near the front of the engine.
Give each of these a wiggle and you should be able to tell which one it is.
Most likely the last time the tank was lifted these were disconnected and never reattached when the tank was lowered.
You will need to raise the tank to reattach the hose or hoses. I am going to guess probably both are no longer attached.

Definitely the fuel tank pipes, either the breather or the cap drain. Sometimes techs will lift the tank without freeing the lower pipe clip, so they get disconnected along the way, just drop down on the engine & get forgotten. Simple enough fix as jrussell says.

Thanks for the replies

As I said this is a friend's bike. He has not had the tank off himself, but it could have come loose after the last service, trapped and just dropped down.

yer that looks like the pipe that fits on the underside of the petrol tank, when the tank is lifted to do air filter can be a pig to put back on.

I see her far behind and below the hose that comes from the radiator. Even if whoever did it had taken out the filter box, it would have made no sense to pass it under the radiator hose. I don't know if your friend is the first owner, but if it isn't, the previous owner may have put an oil drain on the filter box. if the filter box has the oil sight glass, realize that I said nothing and that hose will probably be from the tank

Many thanks again

My friend is the first owner. He lives about 15 miles from the supplying and servicing dealer and, as the bike is still under warranty, he's gong to take it in and let them fix it.....probably wasn't put back by them correctly when they last serviced it!

I'll post on here what happens

All sorted now.

jrussel was spot on with his diagnosis and was right that both hoses were disconnected

The hoses were the fuel overflow and tank breather (Numbers 6 and 7 on the diagram below)

Although the dealer tried to distance themselves from any responsibility, they are the only people who have removed the tank!

Obviously fixed free of charge.

Interestingly my friend has had 2 issues with the bike in his 2 years of ownership (bought new) both caused by the dealer.

Thanks to everyone again

Mike
