I've seen this video (sorry in Thai) he cross this sharp edge bride and the top box open out by accident. he said he locked the topbox and double check it, before commute. His ipad drop out of the box sorry for him.
So any has this experience where topbox accidentally open during ride rough road, or just this guys who post this video clip. I'm worried that i need to purchase additional quick release clip-lock to secure it like picture attached.
Thank you

The stock j-hook latch is poor, made of plastic and easily bent or broken. My lid has never popped open but my top box is always empty, used only to store my expensive helmet when I park the bike. From this video it appears the box is full and maybe pressing up on the lid, either the j-hook wasn’t completely engaged onto the pin, or the hook was bent or broken from a previous incident. A second latch would be a good idea if you need more security.
A forum member here makes and sells replacement j-hook.

Almost everything I've seen on oem boxes is bad. I just ran across another Tenere ride with the lid broken on his. He kinda lowered his head and told me they sucked. I've got Bumots. I had a pannier that I evidentlly I didn't push the latch all the way down and lock. It fell off on the asphalt In second gear. Put one little gouge in a plastic corner guard. Got lucky.

Hmmmm….sounds like a Beemer bag....did the same thing once. The FJR bags are my favorite; haven't had any issues with the Tenere's, but I don't use them often.

I have forgot to completely close the lid a few times and noticed it after stopping somewhere, but as far as I know have never lost anything And my iPad is usually in there.
about the first month owning the 2013 the top box lock came apart and fell out, but that was caused by the dealer that installed them, they didn’t know enough to read the instructions and use blue lock tight on the tiny screws that hold the lock together.
other than the crazy lock system for the luggage I consider it reasonably acceptable, but Yamaha should have upgraded it soon after the first couple years of hearing all the complaints .

Even though I wouldn’t recommend riding like that the guy in the video seems to be a very smooth highly skilled rider.

Replied to this post yesterday, and just so happens, I arrived at work this morning, went to open the top box lid, I'd like to say "to my surprise it was open", but I can't...seems an intermittent issue.
My ride to work is 70km, country roads, I only put my lunch and drinks in the top box, everything of value is in the Bumots...

It’s hard to fathom the vast differences reported on something like this. I have used the same set of oem bags on three S 10’s for a total of over 100,000 miles combined, and never had any problem with them opening inadvertently, locks falling out, etc. If you locktite the lock screws, push down the lids when opening and closing the locks, and pull up on the lid to make sure it is locked, they have been flawless for me. I’ve had them packed full where pressure was required on the lid to lock it, etc. You do need to make sure that soft items like jackets, raingear, etc, do not get interposed between the locking hook and it’s corresponding recess on the lid when locking it. Mine are getting pretty beat up from a fall or two, and a hailstorm that beat me up, too, but they are still going strong.

I'm thinking that it's more the road surface induced impacts causing the failures. Checkswrecks can likely confirm/deny my suspicions. Everything has a fatigue point where it will fail. The type of impact will have different effects on the same type of material. Firstime911 said it was a sharp edge. Much more likely to cause a snap.
