Tank Grips. Stomp Grip or Snake Skin

I really want some tank grips, where my armored pants have my knees next to the tank on my 2013 S10. They don’t need to go very high as my knees only go up about 3” on the side of the tank.

The custom Snake skin is almost $80. I think that is quite pricy for what you get. But perhaps I could just buy one sheet and cut my own custom pads.

The stomp grip has pretty good reviews, but some bad ones as well. I wouldn’t mind the extra thickness.

I just want the grips to actually stay out and not fall off mid-ride.

I know proper cleaning and warn temperature makes a big difference with any grips.

I don’t need a mid tank pad, just the sides.

What are your experiences with either. I think they make standing up on the pegs and working through the twisty back roads much more fun.

But I need to decide soon if I want to get them on this season as the warmer temperatures won’t last forever here.

That’s the same color pattern that I have on my S10.

After searching things stateside, I bit the bullet and bought the Snake Skin that was designed for the Super Tenere in black.

I can believe it was $80 but when compared to the stomp grip I was not saving much money in exchange for problems with the adhesive.

I know what to expect with the product ordered.

I could have taken a chance of ordering out if the UK. I just received a tool via Royal Post but I am still waiting for a tracking number from DS Bike out of Barcelona.

I’ll post photos when I mount the kit on Friday. The other option was very shiny. With the pearl grey and black color on the S10 the shiny skinny option had a “meh” review followed by quite a few negatives. It was two grips per side but $50US.

I did order some 3M DiamondNite stickers to apply to my helmets for added visibility as well as some .5” x 15 roll of reflective tape with the prisms within the material. I hope to add this to my tail rack, for some temporary illumination and I might put a reflective white/grey 3M diamondnite sticker to the front side of each mirror for added visibility at least until I buy some LEDs or Light bar.

I have used stomp grip on other bikes in the past and was really happy. Lots of grip, no complaints at all. I have the snakeskin large on my tenere and also really like them. Not as much outright grip as the stomp grip but no complaints and I really like the thickness.

With the large pads the curve of the tank and the thickness/stiffness of the pad can create a bit extra work to get them to stick properly. After install they wanted to lift a bit at the curve. Getting them really warm with a hair dryer helped. For the first few days I put a strap up over the tank and stuffed a towel between the strap and the pad to help apply pressure to the area in the curve.

The stomp grip I used before were more flexible than the snakeskin and I never had this issue, but I don't regret the purchase at all. Both are great, just pick one.

For my S10 I also have the TechSpec Snake Skin #2 tank grips (including the vertical, top mounted fuel tank strip) as well as the TechSpec Snake Skin side pannier grip strips for the top of my OEM cases. All these grips have been installed over a year ago with heavy use and they are holding up excellently. Well worth their price IMHO.

TechSpec Snake Skin here for 4 years/136k miles. It does wear if you use them. This thread reminded me mine need refreshing soon. I looked on Ebay and found a new open box set for $40 shipped, thanks.
