Does it worth the upgrade from 2010 model to after 2014 ES model?

Hi
I have a ST10 (first generation). Although I really like the bike there are two things I would like to be better:
Suspension : it dives when loaded with 2 up. Although I set it up for hard I think it only goes better if I add hyper pro progressive springs. I did it on a Varadero in the past and I enjoyed the results.
Engine : On first gear the engine is a little abrupt. For the reports I saw here in the forum it’s something that goes away with ECU reflash.

My question is: Anyone that has experience with both models can share if there are any standard improvements on these two specific points on the recent ES model (after 2014 ) ?

I might consider to upgrade ..

Thanks

I went from a 2012 to a 2015 ES and am happy with my choice.

To address your concerns, both can be adjusted in the aftermarket on all generations...

The ES suspension is better than the stock Gen 1 and
the engine is subtly improved as well, but still for the best engine change a ECU flash will be wanted.

For me the changes between the two were numerous and some were subtle, like the side stand.
Some more dramatic, like cruise control and I never really liked the dash on the Gen 1,
the Gen 2 dash is a huge improvement as will the next version if they go color screen.....

After a lengthy test ride on a Yamaha Press Fleet first edition Gen1 at launch, we found the bike wanting in a few areas.

When these were addressed with the Gen2 we tested & then bought a 2014 ES - lovely bike & a keeper unless Yamaha come up with something properly interesting in mid 2020.

I went from a 2012 to a 2015 ES. Multiple improvements:

- Suspension is better. I am not a terribly fast rider, nor do I do any aggressive off-pavement, so it is good enough for me. Pretty much any suspension can be improved by well-informed aftermarket choices, though.
- Engine is notably smoother (reduced vibration). Sport and touring modes are better. A bigger improvement could be made with an ECU reflash. I was going to do that over the winter but had to delay due to other expenses hitting my budget.
- Electronic cruise control. This is an enormous improvement on long trips, or even just resting my wrist on a day ride.
- I like the instrument cluster better on the Gen II.

Thank you all for sharing your vision. You have convinced me :)

I have a Gen 1, and have been looking to update to the Gen 2 for most of the reasons above. But with the possibility of maybe a Gen 3 being announced this fall/winter, I will wait. If nothing, I will get a Gen 2, and save some money buying it off season.

After 50,000 miles Upgraded to generation 2 ES mainly to get cruise control. But there are a bunch of other nice improvements, gauge cluster improvements, supposedly cam chain tensioner improvements, clutch improvements, my old one didn’t have ES, the turn signal indicators are better located but I still wish it had self canceling, the front turn signals on the old bike wiggled a lot more than the new ones.
It was a very expensive trade but I’m happy.
