Like wise on the old bikes. You are right, you have to love em to do it because you sure won't make money on it!! Last project was a 74 DT360. I have a 72 Suzuki GT550 waiting my attention when I retire at the end of January
That Yamaha looks nice! As long as it's worth it to you, the financial side doesn't matter.

A few years ago I drug a junky IH Scout out of the weeds in MN and drove it back to San Diego only because it belonged to my brother before he died. The truck was complete scrap metal, but the trip was worth it to me because my brother always wanted to get that thing going.

I think the key is to keep busy once retired, my father in-law retired nearly 2 years ago, has never been so busy and volunteers for lots of stuff.
I think this is key, I was only retired for about 9 weeks before being romanced back. Not enough time to get regeared and knowing there was an offer in the works, I delayed some of the big projects I want to do which left a few empty days. Of course in the middle of everything my Mom passed and I ended up spending a lot of time taking care of all that business. It was kinda like I was meant to have that time.

What a beautiful old DT, it looks better than new. My first bike was a '73 DT 250. That pic brings back some great memories. This is the only shot of mine, I had the factory front fender removed and a triple clamp mounted plastic fender instead.

This retirement thing is beginning to grow on me. After 26 years of working graves, I’m actually sleeping at night. What a concept.

I'm a step from getting there, I'm GM retired but I started my own business but I made the call to look for me after many years of work, so starting 2022 I will be part of the 100% retirement team!!

I've heard it's not for everybody . . . . I don't know who that would be though. :D
My kids tell me I'm a retirement failure. I've decided to do more for me this next year and maybe even get the sailboat in the water next Spring.
(We'll see how that goes.)

Nowhere close to retired, but decided to take a hiatus from life and work.

Been in Mexico City for the past month and a bit, will see how long I can keep it up for.

For how long you expect to still be in Mexico City? I'm in Metepec near Toluca!

No idea on exact schedule (honestly the best part), I have my apartment until next Thursday and am undecided from there. Wish I knew you were in Toluca, passed nearby when I went to Valle De Bravo.

At some point will be making my way south to Oaxaca and then Puerto Escondido.

Let me know if you're in CDMX, would be great to meet for a beer and mezcal.

Oldie but goody this thread. Three years since my last post here and I am now well and truly retired for about 2 months. My first project is to take care of my bum left knee, which I suspect will require replacement. I’ll know more next week. No time to tend to it while working full time.

I’ve been retired for almost 4 years now and although thoroughly enjoying it, the past 2 years have been dulled a bit by COVID, lockdowns and travel restrictions. I have no desire to seek employment again and don’t fill my time up with jobs. I didn’t give up work to work!

Biggest bonus for me is that (C19 aside) I can go where I want, when I want, without having to rush anything due to work holiday limits. If I’m away on the bike and don’t feel like going home yet, I don’t.

Retirement. If you can, do!

You'd better. If you don't nobody else will. And besides, don't you have a new g-baby too? Sparticus is already 10mos.
Indeed. Sammie's now 18 mo and a big reason I want to get the boat back in the water.

Thinking "Catch me if you can because I'm looking to make trouble."

I retired 8 years ago at age 57 and don't regret it at all. The company I worked for kept me on the payroll as an engineering consultant. They asked me to come back on a part time basis...no chance. I went back for 2 days once to help them out, that was enough for me. Like Boris said, I didn't retire so I could come back to work.

The coronavirus has ruined some of our travel plans, but we manage to do other things to keep busy. Like trying to sort out Medicare, Medicare supplements, Social Security and managing retirement accounts and investments. I am glad to have my motorcycles, boats and ATVs to keep me occupied while my wife babysits our 2 grandchildren (I do help her out sometimes).
