The Raid version is available now in the UK. Looks like they just raided the parts bin. Maybe that's where the name comes from...?

I was hoping that somebody would explain how they came up with that name. Because I can't think any other logical reason. :D

Well, for some reason I'm happy they havent done core changes to the bike. I do get frustrated when I buy a car/ motorcycle and the next year the manufacturer slightly improves the model. Then all I can do is envy those with the newer version while looking at mine like it's outdated piece of junk. I admit I am a victim of these retail tactics.

So far I have a 2016 model and I dont feel the need to rush to the dealer to get the newer version with the new farkles. I get the feeling the bike is good as it is. To me, this bike is everything I wanted and more.

The fact is there isn't a great deal wrong with the S10, but the engine lacks the verve of the KTM SA & probably the upcoming 1250GS & could do with a diet too.

Whilst it doesn't make me want to seek change, it won't be showing well on Yamaha's sales graph. Whilst dealers are often the last to hear, chatting to several recently I gather the S10 is exepected to soldier on, with focus falling on the 700 twins & 900 triple being 'adventurised'. A serious omission IMHO, but I'm sure it will be driven purely by financial considerations. After all, we have the same scenario with the FJR.

Yes I have often wondered if maybe something like a 900 triple might work very well in a adventure bike. I’m not a horsepower nut but I love smooth and I believe a triple could be much smoother than the twin.

It is literally the S10 ES with parts of the accessory catalog slapped on. I should know, I have one. The "Raid Pack" consists of the aluminium cases, the fog lights, a taller touring windscreen, the wind deflectors, the belly pan with side protectors and the carbon fibre side panels.

Allow me.........

I bought the second Super Tenere available in Belgium in 2011. Just the standard model. I farkled the heck out of it, after 3 years we started looking for a house and I just couldn't justify having such an expensive bike in the garage at the same time. So I sold it.

Build a house in 2015-2016, and it's finally 'done' (are they ever done?). Anyway. I've been religiously avoiding anything related to motorcycles in order to not get bitten by the virus again. Big surprise when my wife told me out of the blue that she wanted to learn how to ride. After her first few lessons it became obvious it wasn't just a passing fling, and I caved.

I kept meticulous records of every mod, farkle and accessory I got for my S10. I knew what worked, and what didn't. So I knew what I wanted.

Walked into the dealer and towards the S10's. Wanted the electronic suspension, so it was going to be either the ES or the ES Raid Edition. I got a pretty good price on the basic ES model. Then I started looking around to add some bits that I wanted (cases, belly pan, bigger screen, wind deflectors,...) and the price came pretty close to the Raid Edition. And I didn't really want to have to order from 10 different places, waiting on deliveries, figuring out that I need some extra bits to mount a pannier or stuff like that.

As I talked to the dealer about the Raid Edition, he knocked 2000EUR's off the base price. Without asking. And still they were *really* willing to make the sale happen. It got to the point that I was just throwing things out there and the guy kept accepting. ...

"I would also like that brand new TomTom 550 GPS, but it's 399EUR's, that's a bit steep considering the bike is already so expensive"
-Oh we can write that up too.....
"Yeah but people steal those, Touratech makes a locking mount I think........"
-Ok so the GPS with the Touratech locking mount
"Also it's a big old bike, Touratech makes a sidestand extender plate I saw"
-Oh yeah you got to have that, we'll order that aswell.
"Well the only thing missing is crashbars, I like the SW Motech ones"
-We can order those for you and mount them, no charge
"I also had a SW Motech QuickLock Daypack tank bag on my last S10
-*writes down tank bag*
"They also do mirror extenders because I like to see behind me and not just my elbows"
-Ok
"And here on your ordering form there's a box for a full tank"
-*Ticks box*
"Also it sais delivery charge???
-Oh no we won't charge that
"Do I still have to get the first oil change after 1000km's? I remember it was 97EUR's with my first bike, is that still a thing?"
-Yeah but I'll include a voucher for the first service....
"My license plate will arrive directly here from the Vehicle Registration Office, there's a charge there that I'm supposed to pay when I pick up the bike, but....
-We can cover that charge...

Anyway I ran out of things I wanted so I asked him the total, he told me and then without asking rounded it down to an even number.

Didn't need to think it over knowing what my spreadsheet said (buying all the stuff separately myself and mounting it on an ES would have been way more expensive!)

Signed and paid, bike was ready 5 days later. No waiting on extra stuff, no chafing of the knuckles, swearing and round off bolts trying to install things myself, just get on and go. The only thing I had to change afterwards was the windshield, I'm 2.03m or 6ft6in so I did need a screen taller then the Touring Screen of the Raid Editon, and a spoiler. Managed to sell all the extra bits the bike came with for a nice price aswell. (stuff like the standard low screen, touring screen, plastic belly pan, sticker set, tank bag, stock crash pads,....)

I'm happy. Is it the best deal ever? No, the best deal would be getting a '14 or later model second hand with most of the accessories also mounted. But I wanted to treat myself, so I did! :)

TooTall sounds like you did pretty good buying your Raid edition Tenere ! What’s your opinion of the Panniers you have now compared to your old ones ?
In the last week I’ve talked to a few different dealers and so far none of them can confirm if there will or will not be any 2019 1200 Tenere’s available here in the USA , but they do say there are still leftover 2018’s in some Yamaha warehouse near Chicago.

No sign of 2019 bikes here in Belgium. I know the 2nd Gen has been out for a while now, but I didn't want to wait on another model update. When MY 2019 arrives here it will be just another pack or edition I'm sure.

I will say the gen2 seems alot smoother then my previous gen1, also wind protection seems a bit better. And I love the new dash and the ES suspension!

I think it's safe to ASSUME there will 2019 Teneres in the US. They won't show up until November at the earliest though. I would think that the Givi/Yamaha bags would be a better product. It's just going to come down to $$$$.

Location? The light and color in that picture is something else. Beautiful.

I had the identical Triumph branded ones on my Tiger. The rack system can be a little finicky, but it's tight, strong and relatively foolproof. Overall good enough that you'll never need to replace them with an "upgrade."

That's one of the reasons that I prefer the current OE boxes; the framework is virtually nonexistent when the boxes are off. If I used them often, I would get something more user friendly.

Well I’m buying a new 2018 Tenere ES, picking it up next week, they are going to help me transfer saddlebags, top box, crashbars , skid plate ,wind deflectors and GPS in their shop from my 2013 all for free. The main thing I was after was cruise control, the electric suspension just seems like an interesting option that I’m very curious to try out and see what I think.

Congratulations on the new ride. I use my cruise every time I ride; location dependent. I've been fortunate to not have had ANY trouble with my cruise; it's one of my favorite features of the bike.

In 2016, when I was trying decide whether to go for a discounted '16 or wait to see what the '17s were going to be like, the dealer had no info until late November or early December. He told me that it was normal.
