Professional Off Road Training for the first 12 to sign up.

Learn to ride that big ADV bike the right way!

We are fortunate to once again have a professional riding instructor who will give one class on Saturday at the incredibly discounted rate of $150.
Alain Kaldeaaij of www.xplor-int.com is returning and we have never had students complain in previous years.

The class lasts about 4-5, starting with basics in the big grass area behind the dealership, followed by a ride off-road on gravel. This is not just follow the leader on gravel roads. Once away from the dealership the group works on a technique, then moves to different terrain to practice the next skill.

To learn more about Alain and to sign up, go to his web-site for registration.

SHIRTS - SHIRTS - SHIRTS

Here's the call to order a shirt for this year's event and you can pm me your order, just like every other year. Cut-off date for ordering is April 18.

Inhouse Bob retired and left the business to his daughter, Jody, who will be making them for us. So again these are the same top quality shirts as in previous years.
Because we have a bunch of people who stay on pavement and others who search for off-road, we're doing two colors, green or gray.

$25 for short sleeve or long sleeve.

Anything profit from the shirts will of course go to the Potomac Center. They do good things and the grass most of us will sleep on is theirs.

To order, send me a personal message (pm) to ask for my email address. We use PayPal only as payment till we get to Romney.
In your pm MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE:
(1) SIZE for each shirt
(2) LONG SLEEVE or SHORT,
(3) COLOR
(4) YOUR REAL NAME TO TIE TO THE AVATAR NAME.
(5) How much you are adding for the charity if you elect to do so.
(The donation is totally optional and up to you. The amount is usually clear from how much people send, but it can get goofy when people order more than one shirt with combinations of sleeve lengths.)

I'll send you my email address and you send your PayPal payment to it. When I see the color and size(s) you want in your email and the money is received, I'll send you a confirmation email.

Bob usually made a few extra shirts for walk-up people who miss this pre-order. Those go really fast and we don't want to pay for unsold shirts so there won't be many meaning only the first people to arrive usually get a chance to score one. To keep things simple, they'll be $30 in cash which also promotes ordering early. Again, everything we take in beyond the expense of having the shirts printed will go to the charity.

ALL SHIRTS WILL BE PICKUP ONLY and I plan to arrive with them on Thursday evening at Romney. If you pay for a shirt, are a no-show at the event, and pm me then we MIGHT-possibly-maybe be able to sell your shirt to get your money back to you. Or hopefully, you could pm to tell me to sell it to somebody else and you donate your $25 to the Potomac Center charity. The times we had a few extras, we donated those to the kids and the smiles were awesome.

Had somebody ask about concealed carry in West Virginia so three points:

1. While WV is relatively tolerant from a legal perspective and recognizes many out of state permits...

ABSOLUTELY do NOT camp or even go on the grass between the dealership and Potomac Center because The Potomac Center is technically a school!!! Not only that but the State Police barracks is the next building over and we've had a couple show up out of uniform to share beers in the evening. Having a weapon on school grounds is a go-to-jail event.

"WHERE CAN'T I CARRY A CONCEALED FIREARM IN WEST VIRGINIA? [* Note edit at bottom of this post]
Places off-limits even with a permit/license
Any public primary or secondary education building, structure, facility or grounds including a vocational education building, structure, facility or grounds where secondary vocational education programs are conducted or at a school-sponsored function, or in or on a private primary or secondary education building, structure or facility (except possession of an unloaded firearm in a motor vehicle and leaving an unloaded firearm in a locked motor vehicle);"

There's PLENTY of other grass and places to camp so just be aware. Thanks

2. If coming from the east or north, the ONLY way to pass through MD and a number of other east coast States is to either be licensed by that State OR carry unloaded and locked in a box out of reach. The MD Troopers are hard-nosed about this and do ask if drivers have a weapon. The worst outcome would be to lie, then have a Trooper think of a probable cause to look/search, and find an unlocked gun. Do not lie if asked.

3. Reciprocity between States is an absolute hodge-podge. Remember that the group you ride with may easily pass in a half hour's time between WV, VA, MD, and PA and the rules in each are different. Here's a site to look up the laws:
https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/wv-gun-laws/

* edit - Sierra1 correctly points out that LEO & retired LEOs are exempted, but they would already know that.

I would mention one other thing conceal carry and consuming alcohol is also a go to jail event. Don’t go to MD or DC with a gun. When travelling with other riders / friends. I never felt the need. A gun unloaded locked in a metal side case would pass muster. But then you have to worry about it being stolen. Whole new set of headaches.

Public Law No: 108-277 (07/22/2004)
(This measure has not been amended since it was passed by the House on June 23, 2004. The summary of that version is repeated here.)

Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 - Amends the Federal criminal code to authorize a qualified law enforcement officer carrying photographic governmental agency identification to carry a concealed firearm, notwithstanding any State or local law. Declares that this provision shall not be construed to supersede or limit the laws of any State that: (1) permit private persons or entities to prohibit or restrict the possession of concealed firearms on their property; or (2) prohibit or restrict the possession of firearms on any State or local government property, installation, building, base, or park.

Defines "qualified law enforcement officer" as: (1) a current governmental agency law enforcement officer who is authorized to carry a firearm, who is not the subject of disciplinary action, who meets agency standards which require the employee to regularly qualify in the use of a firearm, and who is not under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicating or hallucinatory drug or substance; and (2) a retired law enforcement officer who retired in good standing from public agency service, who was regularly employed as a law enforcement officer for at least 15 years, who has a nonforfeitable right to agency retirement benefits, who has met the State's standards for training and qualification for active law enforcement officers to carry firearms during the most recent 12-month period, and who is not under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicating or hallucinatory drug or substance.

Excludes from the definition of "firearm" any machine-gun, firearm silencer, and destructive device.

Getting back to more fun stuff, the forecast temps are between 50s at night to low 70s and the attendance keeps growing.

For those trailering or bringing their bike(s) on a truck, Romney has an outdoor lift back by the service entrance.

Three more weeks of shirt sales till the 18th.

Wooo-hooo
:D

Stopped at both Potomac Center and Romney Cycles today. Due to COVID, the Potomac Center can no longer take anything with fabric. The State imposed this on them and has not lifted it. They can still take anything else and soaps, toothpaste, & other toiletries are always good. Our attendees also will be able to use their Hanging Rock camp on Buffalo Hollow Road which makes for a cool get away.

Kevin is starting to get the grounds ready for us with the porta pots, showers, fire pit, clearing the parking lot, figuring out what to give for raffle prizes, etc. It's a LOT of work and will be ready well before we converge on the place.

Picked up my new bike, took a ride down the South Branch River Road to make sure everything worked, and used the lift to bring the new bike home.
Just to check that the lift still works for your benefit of course.

Seriously, being out there on a beautiful day was a real reminder about why I love the area and it is so fantastic for riding!!!

On the 2018 thread there is a link to GPX files located on Drop Box but the files no longer exist. Does someone have GPX files of possible roads and trails to ride?
