High tickover

Today, when I got to work, 30 miles away, when I pulled up I noticed the tickover was staying at about 1500. I blipped the throttle a couple of times but it stayed high.

It seemed to have settled back down again when I rode home but still above 1000 rpm.

Anyone had this before?

Ambient temp was about 3 or 4 c

Mine does that too. Usually when the temps are below 45F-ish (6-7C). It reminds me of a choke that is stuck on. Obviously, she doesn't have a choke though. When the temp gets above 45F-ish, the idle drops to "normal".

Apparently, the throttle sensor (?) uses air temp. It would make more sense (to me) if it used water temp.

EDIT: mine's a '17.

Couple of thoughts:

Is the engine reaching normal operating temp? If not the thermostat might be stuck open.

Are the vacuum cap (right) and lines (left) properly in place?

If Gen1, was the wiring recall completed?

My temp is normal. I'll have to check the caps. But I'm not thinking this is the issue.

Curious to know what is the normal idle for a '13 S10?

I seem to recall 1150rpm as the idle speed. In this cold weather (30-40 degrees F) my 2013 will fast idle at about 1500rpm until the engine temp reaches about 150F on the display. It will then gradually return to 1150.

That is pretty much where mine is at while cold than warm, thanks!

My bike will do things like that but only in the 45 to maybe 55 degree range. Well it used to all time. I haven't noticed it so much the last couple years. I am guessing it is one of those temperatures that the fueling programming just isn't quite right.

If magic's drops down with his coolant temp, that might be a Gen I thing . . . . and it should've been carried over onto Gen II. My idle stays up until the air temp rises. It's kind of disconcerting. I use/rely on my engine braking quite a bit. When the idle is up, the engine braking is down. But, since I'm a candy ass, and the bike only does this near my lower riding temp limit . . . . and this is Texas . . . . I don't have to deal with it very often. (we were 80F today)
