A Gen I, how did the rear spokes look? That's about the only thing I can think of coming on all of a sudden.
Looked at the spokes today they look great and are tight, the prvious owner also tied them together so i dont know if that noise

I see you pulled the shaft drive out and checked it out. Did you pull the U joint out and look at it. It sounds like a destroyed bearing to me on the video. If it isn't the wheel bearing could be the U joint. I never had one bad in 3 bikes i have owned but they fall out of my trucks all the time and sound a lot like that. Hope nothing bad happens while you are riding it. Be very careful. Good luck on the repairs.

It sounds like something might be loose, and it's knocking around as you ride. Does it make this same noise when the bike is stationary and idling in neutral?

Do you have a skidplate on the bike? I'd look inside the skidplate and see if there's something in there that's banging around when you ride.

If possible, it might help to have a friend walk alongside you when you ride slow (like in a parking lot) and see if they can isolate where the sound is originating.

I'm assuming that that was a good joke. 'Cuz, your issue, and Beemer's drive shaft issue? Not the the same, by far. :D

i found one potential issue that might be it, but unsure yet. It sure sounds like it could be it. One of the brake arm bolts that attaches to the caliper was loose. THe bolt and nut was still there but it was the one closer to the front of the bike. I did wiggle it back and forth and made a very similar sound. I sure hope thats the case, if it is that was the easiest fix ever.

I bet that is it! they need to move with the suspension but can't be loose. it will definitely make a rattling popping sounds.

I had a front end rattle driving me nuts. It was the front brake crossover line on the fender rattling. Sounded like the dash was loose.

You don't show us the condition of the UJ, the other end of the driveshaft - that's where you issue could be. Diagram in post #19.

The UJ assembly looks like .......... https://www.motorparts-online.com/en/yamaha/xt-1200-z-super-tenere/2014-2014/cardan-joint-axle/201128469
Middle gear parts diag for reference ......... https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/5448784/xt1200z-2012-23pb-europe-black-metallic-x/middle-drive-gear
No need to remove it however, just check that the spider articulates freely & hasn't been corrupted by wear or corrosion due to water ingress through splits in the rubber boot.

I'm not sure how to remove the uj for inspection. Do i remove the cover for the transmission? I've never done this on a bike. Shaft drives are new. Can't find any youtube videos on this on the super tenere too.

The u-joint is under the rubber boot beside the left footpeg. Remove the final drive and the driveshaft will come out with it, then pull the rubber boot off to inspect the u-joint.
