Media is reporting that 50% of Texas has at least one shot. But, only 34% are "fully vaccinated". And, there is growing concern about the growing number of "no shows", for the second dose. On the positive side. . . . we're at the lowest hospitalizations since June 2020. The rest of the numbers are continuing to drop also.

Masks do absolutely zero, but make sure to wear them for the next few decades anyway just for the wonderful feeling they do something, which they don't. I used to like to play around in Las Vegas, but the laws there state "mask must be worn (even though does nothing) unless eating, drinking or smoking. So in other words if you smoke, which kills 10x the people this virus does, you are exempt. They can never quench down the smokers, that would damage the economy, but if you don't smoke you wear a mask that does zero. I so much enjoy the every day, day after day entertainment. No one cares if you are vaccinated, it doesn't matter, we are all stuck in bull crap for eternity.
It’s not that I think they are the most important thing against COVID. But they are the law out here, just like the speedlimit. I just would like people to respect that and get over this pandemic ASAP. Participating in traffic also wounds more people than COVID (just like your smoking example), I can see your point.
Just hold on for a bit longer.

Stefan.

As a scientist i marvel at the hubris of someone who uses modern technology while denying the very science that made such technology possible.

Although I'm not absolutely convinced that improperly worn, poorly handled face masks of variable quality, used in peculiarly inconsistent places have in themselves contributed much towards the modern technology we use today!

Exactly. The majority of traffic laws were only put in place as a result of attitude. For example, a 40mph maximum speed limit sign is put in place because motorists were unable to recognise that 41mph is unsafe(not strictly true as 18mph may be the safe speed, but you get the idea). Now we all have to follow that bollocks because the self-entitled or ignorant have made such laws necessary where swifter, yet still safe progress, could be made...

This morning, the media is reported that only 29% of eligible people in the US are fully vaccinated.

Not a surprise. Two weeks ago the school board in my town (a school of over 4,000 students) removed all Covid restrictions including masking, social distancing, contact tracing, and the quarantining of asymptomatic student and staff.

Critical thinking time. There's a little funny business / scare mongering going on here. Of course the number of eligible people has recently increased massively since I think most states only just less than two weeks ago removed age and condition restrictions. The media misleads here a bit. If suddenly the number of eligible people is massively increased and you haven't allowed enough time for those folks to take part/react, of course the percentage as reported will drop suddenly or look very small. I think Federally 4/19 was the date to basically make vaccines available to everyone over 16. Here in CA that date was 4/15. Basically no one in these newly eligible age groups can be possibly be fully vaccinated until tomorrow best case, and even then only those who received the single dose J&J vaccine on 4/15. Further complicating that was the pause on the J&J vaccine in most states. For the other vaccines there hasn't been enough time for the rest of these folks to be eligible for their second doses yet, let alone the elapsed two-week period following dose 2 (which is the definition of "fully vaccinated"). I expect with a little time those that wanted the vaccine, but were not eligible until quite recently, will make that percentage improve.

Agreed, that's why I identify the media as my source; to be taken with a grain of salt. But, here in Texas, we've been "anybody over 16" for a while now; no registration required. We're only 50% with one dose, but only 34% fully dosed, and the demand is already dropping. . . . per the media.

Government spokespersons here in the UK are suggesting that booster vaccinations are planned for this autumn for those vulnerable to covid and also a 2 jab re-vaccination programme of the whole population next year, so the existential threat is seen to continue through 2022 at least. It would be reasonable to expect that covid restrictions such as wearing masks, social distancing, testing before attending any spectator events, will also be in place next year. The somewhat disturbing concept of the population being “not fully vaccinated” is also gaining momentum and seems to include children, the vaccines’ 20% non-protection from severe symptoms, the 50% of transmission risk even if you’ve been vaccinated and still contracted covid, and the % who have opted not to take the jab (like the 30% of care home staff here!). It’s part of the emerging “zero risk” mentality that is gripping the world.

I don't remember if I mentioned it earlier, but the J&J shot is a 4 week period post-shot to be "fully vaccinated".

My wife's brother oldest granddaughter 17yrs old, the idiots where she works require vaccination, so she goes in not sick, gets the Johnson & Johnson shot. This is two days ago. She's in the hospital, and has been since getting the shot. All I ask is get the shot if you want, if not leave us that don't want it to not get it. When this is in the books over time I believe more will die from the vaccine than the virus itself. Trying to force everyone to get it is wrong, and that is what they are doing here in Colorado at least. We will all be walking around with two stickers stuck to our foreheads if they have their way, just like the stickers on a license plate.

You're implying that the vaccine is what put her in the hospital, and you could be right. There have been documented issues with the J & J vaccine. But, you haven't described any symptoms. Is she there for vaccine side effects? Is she there because she now has covid? If she is there due to covid, you can't blame the vaccine. J & J takes 40 days to provide protection.

Regardless of why she is in the hospital, I/we wish her a speedy recovery.
