Hi all
First of all sorry if this has been discussed somewhere else but I couldn't find the answer that I am looking for.
So last year I bought a new 2020 model that I am happy with but I keep bumping into threads about flashing the bike and I started wondering..
Basically the bike runs fine and has a very very little jerkiness on throttle ( my previous 2015 Yamaha XV 950 had it more...).
I don't feel the restrictions on the first gear( they might be there but it doesn't feel like).
There isn't any gap in any RPMS.
The engine brake I like it a lot and much needed as I mainly drive up and down the Dolomites.
All in all I am happy how the bike is but...
Now there is a vicious little voice in my head that tells me that my bike COULD be even better...
So my question would it be: is it worth it to flash a bike that seems to be better than previously form stock?
Is the money spent worth it?
Has anyone else who has a newer model like mine did it?
Sorry for the long post.
Hope my English makes sense too...

Hi Strummer and welcome to the Forum, it may help with the answers if you let us know where in the World you are and pictures are always welcome on here.

I have a 2017 model and I have asked the same question. I think I am correct in saying that the most benefits are gained by the Gen 1 bikes, 2010-2014 model. The Gen 2 bikes, 2014-2020 bikes can be improved a little by a good tuner who has access to a dyno and it mainly appears to be making adjustments to the throttle mapping. However, I am pretty happy with the way my bike runs and I can’t really justify the cost vs the benefits so I haven’t had my ECU flashed. There are many who will disagree with me, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, save your money and spend it on petrol and enjoy riding your bike. Oh yes, your English is excellent too and here is the ECU thread for you..... https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?forums/ecu-maps.62/

Thanks for the reply.
I have actually introduced myself in another thread few months ago when I bought the bike last year...
I know it has been discussed and I apologize to keep bringing this matter up.
Only in all threads I have been reading it seemed that only older model would benefit from the reflash so I wanted to know if was worth it on my bike or not.
I totally agree with you about if it is not broken don't fix it thing.
And then beside knowing more stuff about the bike I enjoy the forum because I can learn stuff in English too.
I will update with a picture as soon as I will have a nice one!

I got my 2017 flashed by Anthony who is the flash guru on the forum. Personally, I think it was worth it as I hated the engine breaking and also afterwards I was happy to see a little more power. However if you are that happy with the bike maybe I wouldnt bother. tell that little voice to be quiet, enjoy the ride :) But if you cant forget about it after a month, then yeah do it, although who knows they might change the things about the bike you like
Your english is superb

I too really hate engine breaking but so far the Ténéré has proven very reliable so this has not been a concern. On the other hand, engine braking is kind of an individual preference thing. ;)

Get your ECU flashed at 2wheeldynoworks from Washington state . All their flashes were created on the dyno . I had Anthonys flash and now I have 2wheeldynoworks flash . It's night and day difference . First flash from a popular member here that everybody is raving about was a complete crap . With 2wheeldynoworks flash bike rips lie you wouldn't believe . Just my opinion , I'm just a very , very happy customer , completely transformed my bike .

Nels is a freakin' ECU magician , lol . Seriously guys I had both flashes - the forum popular guys one , that gets all the "omg my bike is so much better now" and 2wheeldynoworks . I don't want to repeat myself here over and over again , but it's a night and day difference . Don't go cheap and get the certain flash just because the price is lower than every place else . Flashes are not all the same . Your bike is your pride and joy and it makes you happy , so go with the real deal and get the best !!!

No need to reduce engine braking with a reflash.
Unless you dont like it like me. That engine braking is not natural. Its the fuel being cut too abruptly and too much. I suppose its useful off road but on road its not for me. Same with the throttle action before flash. Basically the flash makes your engine work more like it should.
