Just the second one stolen. Greg is in shock how someone rode away his new GS out of a secured parking area.

Yes Ron, keyless entry is easily hacked. Software to steal your fob program is used by thieves just driving through neighborhoods and transmitting to the fob. If it is anywhere within range of the thief it can be downloaded. They then simply start vehicle and drive off.

Malls and parking lots are the worst. You get out of your car that a thief wants and they download the code right out of your pocket. The only way to prevent it is a faraday protector.

BTW you can go on Amazon right now and purchase the programing transmitter software to steal. Kind of spooky.

Don't need to hack it, because you can hop on before the owner gets too far with the fob and the bike won't stop till it runs out of gas or is turned off again.
The hard part is getting past a steering lock and with keyless ignition people get lazy about not using it.

Greg Rice, the iron butt king, just got his second 1250gsa, after the first one was totalled in a 20mph lowside getoff. Somehow, someway, someone was able to get access to his security parking garage in Ft Lauderdale, somehow start the 2 week old GSA, and ride away. Greg has the keys and fobs, but no bike. He's pretty pissed off. Security cameras show the bike riding away. Looks like keyless may not be much advantage.
He should stick with rice burners.

Good advice. 2 of my 3 bikes are keyless. I see good and bad about that setup. Easily stolen would fall into the bad category. Need to keep the steering lock idea in mind even for short durations away from the bikes.

Shocking!

I hope he learned his lesson and never uses a security parking garage again!!

Three years ago I owned 1200GSA (now traded for a 1250GSA) and a Super Ten with electronic suspension (still have it....lucky man!)

A friend of mine was looking for a second bike and asked me what was the advantages of the BM over the Yam

I told him the BM had:-

Keyless Ignition
Dynamic Suspension (it adjusts itself...no need for comfort/standard/hard)
Hill Start Assist
Quickshifter
Sat Nav control from the handlebar if you buy a BMW Sat Nav
Cornering ABS
TFT Screen
etc

He then asked what were the advantages of the S10 over the GSA,

Simple I said, it has none of those!

He bought the >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>?

Both are great bikes but have different strengths and weakness

My 2014 S10 was OK but what makes the GS worlds better than the S10 are NOT what you listed.................

Don't mean to be way off the topic, but Greg found how it was so easy to ride away on his 1250GSA without a key. There is something called an "antenna ring", from what I understand is easy to access, break off and replace. You can go to any BMW dealer and buy the ring with matching fob. Simply break the ring off a BMW, mount your own ring, and presto, you have key and ride away. Greg found broken plastic from the old ring where the motorcycle was parked.

In your opinion the GS is the better bike but I'm (and possibly most people on this forum) not sure I agree with you

Whether it be the engine, handing, suspension, etc both have advantages and disadvantages.

Presently own an electrically suspended model S10 (I previously owned 2 Gen 1s) and a 1250 GSA (but previously have owned a 1200GSA and a 1200GS LCs plus 4 previous incarnations of the pre LC 1200s, 2 1150s and 2 1100s going back to 1997 so I know my BMs) and think they are both great bikes but give a different riding experience

I purposely didn't reveal which bike my friend bought

My Yamaha and BMW are ridden back to back and my annual mileage is shared equally between them (plus a few miles on my naked Triumph)

If I had to chose between them it would be a very difficult choice but I'd probably sell the ????????????????

Every bike on the market today has some audience that will tell you that it is absolutely the best, most perfect bike for them. Who am I to say they are wrong?

It's fun to discuss the pluses and minuses of each. But the better or best bike can only be determined by the rider. I know when DM and I each owned our Teneres we both would have said it was the best bike for each of us at the time. Now we own different bikes from each other and they are both the best bike on the market for each of us, and for totally different reasons.

Most folks on this forum have not ridden the 1250 GS. They are happy with what they have and great for them. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I had no trouble letting go of the S10 once I had a chance to test ride the 1250. I still regularly ride a Super Tenere but it remains largely unchanged since 2014 while the upgrade the GS received in 2019 put it over the top for me.

An objective comparison of engine, handling, and suspension has one very clear winner. The sales figures clearly identify a winner as well. Most Yamaha dealers in the USA don't even keep a Super Tenere in stock. Many have never even sold one. You could not say that about a single BMW motorcycle dealer.

Me too. Not sure those wheels are tubeless though. It's a sticking point for me. There's a lot to like there for sure.
the guzzi has tubes in the tyres but just read that the new 2021 guzzi has a diffent wheel so running tubless on 2021 models

Why do you prefer tubeless tyres?
