I live near the South Carolina Coast but it is only about 300 miles to good NC, TN, GA, and WV mountain roads. I have yet to exhaust all of the "good" roads. After the rally in Custer I plan to spend at least 2-4 more weeks around WY and CO. I figure I can get good ride suggestions for areas to ride that weekend. I would rather take the Tenere but the Z900RS is easier to tote across the country in the back of the Tundra.
If you are going to ride WY and CO you might as well hit Utah while you are at it. There are a ton of national parks to ride through.

I am planning on doing paved + gravel and easy dirt. Mostly thats a factor of being on battlewings. I dont want to change to 50/50 tires this season since ill be doing 1000mi each way just to get to custer.

Throw on a set of Shinko 804-805 and they will easily get you across the country and really good off road capabilities. Even when you get home you will still have more miles on the tires....

This is what I do and ride on. I always thrash them off road and on the long distance highway and twisties. I abuse them on my cross country rides, most of the time I still have half a rear left and 3/4 of the front left when I get home.. For (probably) less than $200 for a SET of tires, you cant go wrong. I still have the same set on my bike now that I used on my last cross country adventure. I will throw on another set before this ride and wont have any issues........ I ride off road everywhere I travel to, but I always have to ride 500-1000+ miles to get there. Ive ridden the 804-805 in AZ-UT-CO-AR-OK-TN-NC. I beat on them in the tight stuff and have never had any issues at all.

Ive recently been looking to change from the 804-805 tires. There are 2-3 different brands that have some great looking ADV tires that get really good reviews. I would "like" to try them and im sure they are a fantastic set of tires. But each set of these tires is $350-$400. I just don't think I will get DOUBLE the performance from these sets versus the 804-805. ( I personally never want to be riding my bike and maybe riding aggressive off road and think to myself "I need to take care of these tires, they need to last, they are expensive, I need to make it home across country"...... I throw on a set of these 804-805 and go have a blast.... and try and blast those suckers off the rims)

Dont give up the fun opportunity to ride some off road because of tires. Throw a set of these on and try something new !

If you do, I run my PSI @ 38/40(41)

Are you going to the races in Daytona? I'm headed out next week for the Flat Track race and the 200. I miss the old days when the Daytona 200 was a premier Superbike race.

Hey buddy-

Have a super safe trip ! Will you be having a spring party ! That was SO MUCH FUN, I'm looking forward to the next !

Stay safe

I'll wave on the way by. Me and some buds are passing trough April 18 or 19 on the way to Medina (Kerville) for a week of riding in The Hill Country. Big Bend from there, then maybe AZ and Utah.. Then depends on who's with and mother nature.

Hi, new to the forum and pretty new to riding the Tenere. Is this event open to newbies? Been getting the bike ready for the season, and have found this website and users quite helpful. Stumbled across the event and would be quite interested to go! I posted a intro/Iron Butt tale report https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/new-member-intro-and-1st-iron-butt-ride-around-minnesota.29991/

Excited to meet up with other riders!
Of course it's open, see the first page for sign-up details. Why there'll probably be a BMW and KTM there to show we're such an open group.
;)
