Well if that’s true maybe they quit making them stainless steel because currently the only color choice is black.
I think that’s true. My friend was looking to buy a silver set, and if I recall correctly, they told him they weren’t available any longer.

my plan is to call T-Rex probably Tuesday to find out for sure what’s available and place an order, color doesn’t matter much to me but I do believe Stainless Steel is much tougher than plain steel.

Speaking of T-Rex products, I'm real happy with their highway pegs and someone here warned me to make sure I applied Loctite to the counter sunk screws that hold the pegs to the bar. After yesterday's ride I would expand that to recommend applying Loctite to the little recessed set screws that serve as radial location pins in the barrel adapter between the frame mount and the bar. I found the left one backed out to the last thread or two after a breakfast stop. Lucky I noticed it. As it turns out, I had the correct hex key wrench to put it back in and my riding buddy had a tube of Loctite, so we made a quick ad-hoc, on-road repair and were on our way.

Well talked to T-Rex Racing yesterday, unfortunately stainless steel crashbars are no longer available for 1200 Tenere.
The lady said They will not take orders over the phone so I attempted to place the order online using the discount code posted earlier “storymotoadv “ but it wouldn’t work so I called T-Rex again and she told me to go to Facebook and like T-Rex and email them a screenshot to get the discount. So after doing that they sent a discount code, so when I went to checkout the code I had used yesterday was still there but today for some reason it worked and I got the 10% off, so total cost delivered is $449.95
THANKS EVERYONE for all your help !!!

***Caution***

Apparently when the powder coating around the welded connections on these bars crack and start to bleed rust after less than a couple thousand KMs with no crashes it will be considered "normal wear and tear" by T-Rex. Additionally it may also be mentioned to you from T-Rex that powder coating those tight welded joints will always have cracks and thin spots in the coating and again that is "normal" to see this issue.

All of that is made even more troubling when you had purchased and paid for powder coated stainless steel crash bars, only to find out that the material was changed and now produced in carbon steel...
I wish I had thrown a magnet on the bars before I unwrapped them...

Just putting it out there for those who have yet to purchase that's all.

I will now be pulling my bars off and sending them to a competent powder coater to be blasted and recoated.

Kind of sucks when my first post on this great forum is a negative one too...

Rammer I’m sorry to hear your not satisfied because of the cracked powder coat by the weld joints but I also suspect if you have them re coated they will do the same thing again.
Yes I definitely would have chosen stainless steel if there was a choice but there was no choice when I ordered.
I am quite amazed at the extremely long list of parts T-Rex builds for all kinds of motorcycles !

Yes, the Faraday Cage Effect with powder coating is what needs to be mitigated for corners or inside sections of the parts being coated but this is manageable if the proper equipment, powder and settings are used.

After being blasted and recoated I would hope they will be as durable as many of the other parts (stock and aftermarket) we adorn our bikes with which have similar and potentially problematic areas to powder coat. I will be highlighting this to the powder coater my local MC shop has recommended when I take them in. If the coating fails again then I would chock it up to poor welds, weld prep and/or design of the welded connections.

For what it's worth, the crash bars checked all the boxes for me and still do even if the material is CS provided I can get them coated properly to stop the rust blooms from adding the unwanted patina. LOL.

I dropped mine off at the powder coater today. He was able to pick most of the coating around the threaded bosses and the welds just with his fingernail.

Maybe my set was a lemon but he said there is no way that a competent powder coater should not be able to do a proper job on these bars. None of the tighter spots should hinder the process.

Will post up once I get them back which will be in a couple of weeks or so.

Taking a cue from @bimota above and they are looking to find a red that matches my graphics. If they can’t then back to black.

Here are a couple of pics from when I first noticed the issues.

I have personally met with the owner of T-Rex racing. He is a good person and he cares. Let him know.

I think there is a quality issue with their bars. I found a crack and rust near a weld while unwrapping them. I contacted T-Rex and they replaced the bars. After running them for 15k mi, they have held up very well to countless tip-overs off-road. Can't say the same about the skid plate, which I will be replacing. 20190607_124638~2.jpg

What kind of issues have you had with the plate?

I keep having issues with the bolts that go into the cover for the oil filter but my plate has taken a beating and held up well. Only other issue was the angle of one of the points where it attaches on the bottom left was wrong. Overall I really like mine though and have done a good job.
