To me, one of the weirdest, or scariest, things about the bug. . . . is that there is no obvious rhyme or reason why some people get it, recover completely, and no big deal. And, others get the shit kicked out of them. Is blood type very important, or only somewhat? Is the severity determined by something in a person's D.N.A? Genes? Lifestyle? Diet? I'm guessing that by the time "they" find a pattern, it won't matter anymore.

Feel for you because the isolation sure gets boring.

Unfortunately, while it's an all too common perspective these days I have a number of family members who believe getting COVID probably happen to them and assume they will not have lingering issues if they do get it. I turned down attending a big Christmas party even though "The doors and windows will be open and people can stay outdoors if they want."
And I was told "After all it's just a different kind of flu and I've had plenty of those so I've got a strong immune system and shit needs to get done."
As well as "Masks are the choice of the store owner. If he has a sign and is wearing a mask, I'll respect his wishes in his place." implying he will only wear a mask when he has to.

Till we can get a lot of people vaccinated, I have family members doing their best to keep us stuck here. The US has a third the population of India and is massively more affluent, yet India is flattening their curve (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/cumulative-cases).

People with attitudes like some of my family's "I'm not worried" are who keep making us worse.
Yeah CW, we need that vaccine. Have a good Xmas.

And another thing........! There is no evidence that lockdowns have ever saved a single life, but plenty of evidence that they haven’t worked. Here in Wales there have been rigorous restrictions during which the infection rate and hospital admissions have risen. The “experts” blithely claim the things would have been worse if we hadn’t shut everything down, but there is no evidence that this is the case. Sweden has not closed its economy and the impact of the virus has been indistinguishable from almost all other Western European countries.

This virus will take its course through the population just as viruses have done throughout human history. Attempting to arrest this process is like King Canute trying to stop the tide coming in. Find a vaccine and the virus will mutate (just as colds and flu do every year). Eventually the virus will fade away and lose its potency and we will develop significant resistance to it, but our actions will have had very little impact on the overall outcome. However, we can easily bankrupt ourselves trying.
Lock downs have worked in some places. New Zealand, Australia, ...I. sure there are more. Of course we have smaller populations and a moat.

Oh no not at all Sir. Hell, I even watch BBC and CNN both just for the entertainment value. Both news networks regardless of funding very rarely get anything right and twist almost everything into a lie. Neither network is reliable source of accurate information.

I'm doing nothing more than making a juxtaposition that is comparable to socialist newspapers such as Daily Mirror/ Guardian and LA Times/New York Post.
Hi Chris, just to put you straight the guardian is not a socialist publication, Liberal would be more correct. Also please direct me to these so called lies from the BBC.
And lastly i would have thought that publishing the Pentagon Papers can only be seen as a good thing by anyone unless of course you dont have a problem with your soldiers being used to get someone elected or stay in power. I dont have a political persuasion, i think something is either right or wrong whoever is doing it.

Then we agree. Liberal is by definition socialism. Most all media outlets throughout the world are for entertainment value only. When it comes to my health and decisions I make educated decisions based on facts, scientific proof, and what I actually see going on around me.

Solders being used to get someone elected or stay in power? That is an outright false assumption. I served the military and have many family members who have and are currently serving. No one was ever once persuaded to keep or get rid of the Commander In Chief that was in power. I had both Carter and Regan as my boss and respected them both equally. I was able to make my own decisions on who I wanted to vote for as my boss.

BBC is very clever reporting by not outright lies but reporting "close sources revealed". They are also clever by removing statements and articles that have proven to be false. I know the game they are playing. The same game a lot of networks are using. I see right through all this false news reporting. Sadly there are millions of gullible people throughout he world that actually believe what they see on TV or read in a paper.

Go back a few pages and see what I stated months ago about this vaccine being available before years end. A lot of members here and the news was reporting that the vaccine over a year away.

I used my brain and listened to the Commander In Chief and my friends and family in the military who saw logistics ramping up for distribution back in August and September. Everyone sure is changing their tune now. I was laughed at and argued with when I shared this valuable fact of information.

No sweat I respect your views as well Sir. We do not have to agree. I think what most of us want is the same. And that is for this COVID crap to go away or at least get under some kind of control.

I’ve found BBC reporting of straight news to be pretty matter of fact, especially news concerning the US, as they have less, if any, political agenda, in the US, at least it seems so. Where the liberalism comes out is in their opinion and feature pieces. The definition of socialism is that the state owns all the means of production. I don’t really recall BBC advancing that point of view.

This might be a first - civility on the interwebs! I think that this is why this is such a good forum. Mutual respect. I learn from both sides.

Nice place to park your cash for a 4% plus return though.
Only if it stays that way. Every single interest bearing investment in the world is no different than gambling in a casino. It is all speculation. And just like gambling some people make a living at it and some people are wiped out.

As a decades long trader, I resemble that remark.

As for gambling, you MUST do something because inflation is a natural part of life and however "X" many dollars you have, they WILL be worth less next year. That's not gambling, that is a guaranteed loss.
Long term:

Near term:

You can't run a household budget on "Cut taxes (your income), increase spending, debt is OK" philosophy and neither can a country for long. Pretty soon, the Treasury will need to deal with inflation the only way possible and in the way they always have. Print more dollars, decreasing the value of each rapidly.

There is a big difference between parking cash for a dividend and speculating on the share price rising. People held Vodaphone shares for the dividend even though they never made any money really.

Good point - there's a place for fixed income and probably will be till well into next year. But with the amounts of world debt that needs to be watched carefully.
