Last I heard (10pm last night) there was no damage from this one - that damage & deaths were from the one in 1983.

Actually, there's volcanos. . . . and then there's the Yellowstone caldera. . . . .whole 'nother monster.
Yes and it will take out the whole Western Hemisphere if it decides to erupt.

I think it is on the western edge of the caldera....
Most maps of the actual caldera show it just barely nudging into ID. The affected area if it had a major eruption is quite huge though. It's ok, don't worry, be happy. The 'experts' say there is only a .01% chance it will erupt in the 21st century even though it's "due".

What bothers me is that the elevation of Yellowstone has been rising for a couple of decades (inches thankfully and not feet). That tells me that magma must be moving into the underground chamber. Could be that the earthquakes are a direct result of the flow. If they continue for an extended period of time then it could indicate that something bad might be coming.

From what I just read, Geologists think it's highly unlikely that a "little" quake 200 miles from Yellowstone would have any impact on the caldera. It's plate tectonics causing earthquakes, not magma flow.

Or they all got Hulu....
After a little reading, Chinese phones and internet devices don't work across the entire country. Just usually one region. So people that travel have multiple devices and carriers. Even migrant workers typically have one home phone and one 'work' phone for the region they are working in. With the travel ban still going in in China, people have been dropping the devices and subscriptions they are not using since they can't travel or work. Not to mention it saves them bills when they have little or no income. That is believed to be the primary driving force in the slump in telecom subscriptions.

Are the Chinese numbers accurate? Probably not. But we'll likely never know how far off they are either.

If they were dead, they wouldn't bother cancelling their service... Jus sayin'.

Anybody been through Craters of the Moon in eastern Idaho? I know Mak10 has been. Idaho is a very volcanic state. Pockmarked with hot springs all over the place.

I'm not sure that one place in the world is any safer that another. But, there are plenty of places that are holy s**t dangerous to live in the world

Hey Don

You know what ? when i read about this it reminded me very clearly of the roar of the quake (s) we had in 2010/11, it sounded like a freight train in the distance then a second later all hell broke loose and were hit by a 5.8 and a few seconds later a 7.1, at the time it felt like 1 big bastard...Yes it scares the crap outta me even now..at least i can sorta do something about the virus and i know its there.

My wife and I have visited (not on the bike). Very hot and desolate when we went. You have to want to see it, you'll never just drive by and stop. Sorry, I can't access our travel photos right now.

Somewhat similar old lava fields along 117 south of Grant's NM, (El Malpais).

I’ve been there... but usually drive on by for more interesting and lusher areas. Grand Teton is about the same distance and much more enjoyable IMO.

LOL, my last time through there a couple years ago was coming home from Jackson Hole and a quick Yellowstone tour. Time before that was on the Royal Star.
