I had enough "excitement" in the 1600 miles I owned a BMW to satisfy my need for a long time to come.

Took my S10 to a bmw shop close to work since they deal in honda and yamaha. I must have said a bad word when I asked about them looking over my S10. That place was full of attitude. I left and wont be back

Well hell, I'm closer today than I've ever been before to doing something I said I'd never ever do. No drama whatsoever during the past 6-years of ownership, I'm still deeply in love with my big blue S10, I know for sure that I will regret this decision for the rest of my life, LOL...but she's completely farkled out, I'm increasingly bored, the GSA is teasing me loudly and relentlessly, and the nearest dealer to me (Moon Motorsports) seems to insist on being a class act all day long...fuckers, LOL! It's looking like it could be a very expensive week ahead!!!
Moon Motors was my favorite dealer in Minnesota. You'll be riding that GSA soon!

[QUOTE="AusTexS10, post: 394454, member: 18438....The really bad news is they've bought out old dealerships and monopolized so many brands (Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Triumph, BMW and maybe a few others)....
Are you talking about "Freedom"? 'Cuz that's what they do. When ever a dealership isn't doing well, they buy it out, and "restructure" to make it profitable. They've done it in Cleburne, Ft Worth, and Hurst. (Honda, Honda, BMW). That's just three that I know about. And, that doesn't even include cars/trucks.[/QUOTE]

Nope, I was talking about Ride Now.

Do yourself a favour and just take the 1200 Tiger out for a spin. Either you will love it or hate it, personally I love it. I found the BMW just way too confusing and uncomfortable. Dealer seemed nice though, nothing like what a lot of you have talked about. Mind you we did have a bad experience with a bad BMW dealer in South Carolina when we had a rental bike.

I think that if, for some unknown reason, I decided to choose a different bike, it would be the big Tiger. I like the looks, and I have a buddy that has one, and loves it. He had some mechanical issues early on, but they were fixed under warranty. BUT, why would I change? Dependability, durability, and reliability are endearing traits to me; not boring. But, if you're bored, more power to ya'. Good luck.

I would switch for the electric windscreen, the ability to switch from kph to mph, turn signals that switch off automatically, the ability to turn off ABS with a quick tap of the screen and more power. How ever I do like the ease of maintenance and availability of inexpensive accessories for the Tenere. Not bored with my S10 but if I was to switch that is where I would go.

I've ridden the Tiger, and that big triple is GREAT. The sound, the power... it's intoxicating.

At the end of my test ride loop, I waved at the dealer as I sped by and did a second loop. When I finally pulled in, I was literally laughing in my helmet. Dealer said "what'd you think?", and I said, "WOOOOOOooooo!"

At the time, I was more about cheap/ dependable, and Triumph was having some big problems with the engine. A dyed-in-the-wool Triumph riding buddy bitched continuously about the cost and availability of parts. I've pushed it off my list as "too exotic."

It really does bring a lot to the table, and it's a decidedly DIFFERENT experience than the GS... or the S10.

When I shopping around for a big ADV bike, I tried out a 2016 Triumph 1200 and had the same reaction. It was just a hoot. Ripped down the country roads and gave me big grins. The feel of the triple was intoxicating. But the S10 won out on the balance of the price, widespread dealership network, and tradition of reliability. Plus my safety mindset told me "yeah, intoxicating may not be wise..."

Triumph triples are great engines, superb power delivery.

I’m a bit hooked on the latest 1050 Tiger Sport atm, just might end up with one.

F900XR, S1000XR, KTM1290 Adv............also calling.

so after a month and a half on the new Tenere I can say it is better than the first gen Tenere . but it is familiar as a family member and it is still a Tenere. getting better milage , better wind protection , cruise control is sweet , ES is a magic carpet ride compared to the first gen non ES. so I am happy though not overwhelmed .... still in set (farkle) up Mode with a possible march trip to south padre island as its first big trip. I in the back of my mind wonder about the Beemer , how I might like it or not , can't have everything in life . maybe I can talk some one into switching bikes one day.

No need to find someone to switch, just stop in your local BMW dealer. The one thing BMW does well is offer incentives to put bikes in the demo fleet. Since the GS is very popular it should be very easy to find one and take it out. My local BMW dealer allowed me to take a 200 mile test ride and I could have gone longer if needed. No way I would have bought one if I didn't have a chance for a thorough test ride.

Once again, to each their own. BUT, after living with the Beemer, past the warranty, I have no desire for another one. The Tenere just feels right....to me. And, the knowledge that nothing will likely break, and leave me on the side of the road. Lower initial investment, parts that are cheaper, and more readily available.... Your results may vary. :)

Plus BMW and Harley are chock full of Chinese parts. I find Japanese far superior to Chinese, but maybe a lot of riders really lust for the Chinese stuff that breaks but is so much more exciting to own.

Not my situation. My wife wanted a full featured bike that wasn't built for a 6 foot
(or taller) man. The Japanese don't feel anyone shorter than that deserves to ride an adventure bike.

its all about the inseam ..... I know alot of tall guys with short inch inseams , Harley caters to this crowd .... I know a few shorter than me folks who are long in the leg and have no problem with tall bikes. some are even women.
